Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Approaching the Feast of the Sacred Heart and the Feast of the Immaculate Heart, this week, I decided to begin re-reading another book I’ve been blessed by in the past. In fact, I think I may have read this book twice. I read it the first time while on a retreat, finding it in the library of the Retreat Monastery. I was so good my husband and I decided to purchase a copy for our own library at home. We found it HERE.
St. Maximilian Kolbe wrote in Polish and not all of his work has been published in English, but this book, written by Father H.M. Manteau-Bonamy, OP quotes from the saint’s writings liberally, and the author only comments to help the reader appreciate more the wonderful work God did in and through St. Maximilian.
If you love Our Lady and want to grow in appreciating her union with God Father, Son and especially with the Holy Spirit, you will be blessed by reading and re-reading this book. I am only on p. 28 of my current re-reading of this little paperback of 183 pages. It is not a book to be read quickly, but to be read prayerfully, with many pauses to ponder the depth of it. Hopefully others who have read or will read this book may be willing to discuss it.
St. Maximilian spoke of Mary as the “Immaculata” and his words help me appreciate more Mary’s words at Fatima that her Immaculate Heart will triumph. St. Maximilian’s Act of Consecration has been for me, a certain completing of my De Montfort Consecration. See HERE for Kolbe’s Act of Consecration. I prayed De Montfort’s Act of Consecration when I was 15 years old and have renewed that Total Consecration many times since, but around 2008, I read St. Maximilian’s Act of Consecration and decided to pray his prayer as well, consecrating myself totally to Jesus and Mary under both forms of Consecration.
Perhaps some of you have had a similar experience. How grateful I am to these two saints, among others who continue to help me learn how to live my consecration to Jesus through Mary! May the Holy Spirit continue to work in all of us as we seek to Love in truth and to build up the Body in Love.
