My husband is an OTR (over-the-road) regional driver. He is not able to attend Mass on Sundays on a regular basis due to his job. This got me thinking and praying. What about all the other truck drivers who are not able to attend Mass?

My point: On any given Sunday at any truck stop in America - there is probably at least one Catholic who would probably love to attend Mass with no way of getting there. Oh, they have GPS, etc… but they are restricted by their companies policies about leaving their loads and/or federal laws about driving. Not to mention that most churches tend to be in residential areas and no place to park a sleeper cab with a 53 ft trailer on a road with weight restrictions!

I would love for my husband (or anyone’s husband, wife, father, mother, sister, brother, etc…) to be able to attend Mass! What would it take to go to the nearby truckstop and put up a notice on the bulletin board about the closest Catholic chuch and their mass times? How about someone to call for a ride to Mass? :signofcross:

I am also an OTR and I know what you’re saying. Most truck stops have Christian Chapels/Chaplains or a pamphlet and Bible display. I have seen at some truck stops where the local Christian church has a ride to church program. I wish the Catholic Church had a Ministry similar to what other Christian churches have.

Agreeing with Rackman - and my heart goes out to him. I was an OTR driver just long enough, lol. Those places manned by Transport For Christ and other groups are nice, but they’re not exactly Catholic-friendly. In more than a few cases, they were only friendly to a certain type of protestant.

Some guys (and ladies) can absolutely groove on driving, but there are a lot of drivers who are hurting.

Is it time maybe somebody assessed the need and maybe stepped in? (And yes, I am saying I’d like to help if I could.)
