Reactions to pro-life talk by Michael Coren

At the end of another university speech, I chatted with a pro-abortion student who, unlike most of her friends, was at least willing to dialogue. She told me she was gay. I said to her, “I’m not going to debate homosexuality with you, but let me put to you a proposition. Let us suppose for a moment that a gay gene was found and could be detected in unborn children. I do not believe this to be plausible or possible, but for the sake of argument, let us pretend. Then let us suppose that many people decided to abort their baby if it had such a gene and was gay. Would that be choice, would that be acceptable?”

A long, long pause. Then tears came into her eyes and she backed away. Perhaps, God willing, we are changing some people some of the time. No shame in that at all.

I was working on a similar premise to make a You Tube video on this. But perhaps with a tad more subterfuge. I was going to pose the question as… If you had seen the film Gattica, where all ailments and deficiencies could be genetically detected and or altered (eg. There is 75% chance of heart condition, a 30% chance of MS) would you correct those genes. Now if a gene were detected that the child was going to be a homosexual, and say the mother wanted to have grandchildren someday, would it be ethically sound to correct the homosexual gene? The argument will run the gambit of course from comments, but if homosexual advocates say that it isn’t ethical then they have just made the argument against a woman’s body and her choice.

I’m curious as how that would play out. I know it’s alittle science fictiony, but any thoughts from anyone?

Poifect! As Curly would say-What a conundrum. Why shouldn’t someone be able to abort if the baby won’t have green eyes or might become homosexual. If gender abortions are “ethical” so should gay abortions.Go for it!It will shock and dismay some and disturb their “wah” grasshopper, and their comfortable “value systems”.👍

Depends on the pro-choicer, I would imagine, I"ve gotten homosexuals to come over to the pro-life side based on this argument, but then I’ve seen people respond with “doesn’t matter if teh foetus is gay, a girl or deformed, its the mother’s choice”.

But honestly, if we can win a strong portion of the homosexual community we’d do some good. Look at groups like PLAGALs. (Pro-Life Alligence of Gays and Lesbians), they’re a strong voice for the pro-life community, and it helps break the sterotype that we’re all a bunch of right wing, conservative, 58 year old loner white men from the bible belt who hate women.

While fun, be sure to throw in an Atheism gene for religious pro-abortionists.

We had never thought of that but you guys would be the safest of all as Devout Catholics and non-Catholic Christians could not abort under any circumstances and why would an athiest abort another athiest/So you guys are probably the safest unborn children around.😃

There ares no such things as religious pro-abortionists.There may be those who goto Church asnd have abortions but it will be a case of"lord, lord,…did we not…"“go away you evil doers iI never knew you” .Boo-hoo,gnashing of teeth etc.ad nauseum.

Maybe there is an “atheist” gene?

Essentially every human society with a higher brain function (ie. not a bunch of speechless apes) has had some form of religion and some sort of drive to seek “god” or a “higher power”.

Perhaps there are some born without this “drive”? Much in the same way some people are born with a “drive” to engage in sexual relationships with the same sex leads some to beleive in a gay gene maybe the same concept can apply to an atheist gene?

Just an odd side thought.

You’ve obviously never heard of these insert less than pleasant descriptive guys:

rcrc.org/

I know, I know, makes me feel sick too.

Check out the woman in disguise(sunglasses)holding the "prayerfully pro-choice"sign AND the toddler-check out the Toddler’s expression .It says it all.

That site is truly diabolical and I pray that God slaps them repeatedly with Isaiah 5.There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Will there be enough room in hell for all these people? Not up to me but I’d say God takes a very dim view in invoking His name in support of murder.

It might be the case that all human societies seek answers to questions, and those questions lead to a higher power. But, I am not sure that all human societies seek a higher power in and of itself. Atheism is likely a conditioning of culture and environment, but who knows, maybe there is a gene that makes one predispositioned towards atheism.

Any Faith, whether a fine old Faith like Atheism or Catholicism is ultimately a choice,a decision.Cogent people make choices based upon what one perceives to be evidence but ultimately Faith of any kind must be chosen or submitted to.We are not hamsters.😉

What about atheists who find faith?Has that gene been excised or like a cancer gone into remission.I don’t think genes are capable of that.Or a Christian who loses his faith and adopts the faith of atheism.?

Of course there are, it’s crazy to suggest otherwise. About half of all Americans are pro-abortion. But the number of atheists and agnostics is considerably less than that.

By breaking the 5th commandment they have forfeited their Christianity and are forfeiting their souls for eternity. Please look up my Biblical reference to “Lord,Lord,…Go away from ye you Evildoers I never knew you” and Isaiah 5.
Why would you care anyway-you are self-declared as having no faith.

That’s the no true Scotsman fallacy though. There are people who are pro abortion, but also self identify as Christians, pray, attend services and so on.

Perhaps?

There are those who are pscyhopaths, (I’m unsure if there’s a gene for that yet), and those people live normal, non-homicidal lives.

As it stands I think the choice towards or against a faith or belief in some deity is based on conditioning and nuture more than nature.

I think you’re forgetting the Holy Spirit in the instance of a person conditioned and nurtured and steeped in athiesm who becomes a Christian by conviction.I know several who have embraced Christ and who were not “nagged” or “brainwashed”
into it.
If it was dependant upon nurturing or conditioning there would not have been an original deist.
