So on here I have heard the question of whether or not someone should read spiritual books during adoration. Thursday, I did just that. It then occurred to me that this reminded me of the scene from the pixar film “Up”. During the opening montage with Carl and Ellie, there is a scene where Carl and Ellie are reading together while holding hands and enjoying each other’s presence. So it reminded me of the fact that you don’t always have to be speaking to someone to enjoy their presence. The same goes for adoration. We can enjoy Christ’s presence by reading with him. In fact, I’ve had a lot of peace-filled and productive reading when I’ve read with Christ in the sacrament at my side. Here is the scene from the film for context.

Dang it, would people please stop chopping onions here on the forums! 😭

I love the connection you made here. Just sitting and spending time with the One we love. Thanks for sharing. ❤️

Spiritual reading during adoration for me is good as it gives something for Mediation. Provided you aim isn’t to read through as if you are studying or alike

I find that some devotional reading during Adoration helps keep me focused and makes it easier to pray.

If reading during Adoration wasn’t okay, the chapels wouldn’t provide a bookcase full of devotional books to use.

Somebody on the old CAF tried to tell me “Reading isn’t Adoring.”
Maybe if I were reading a Harlequin romance it wouldn’t be, but reading the life of a saint or the reflections of Padre Pio or “My Daily Bread” seems to be just fine to me.

I really wish people would just be happy that others spend time with Jesus and quit telling them how to use that time.

Well done , and keep it up .

Your post reminded me of the story about an old man that John Vianney found in the Church just staring at the tabernacle. The priest asked him what he was doing and the man explained, “I look at him and he looks at me.”
