Is it evil/wrong for Catholics that have the means by way of good reputation, financial support, motivation, etc. not to run for political office to provide candidates for voting Catholics, Christians and others real voiting choices. Should we as practical Catholic create a Culture of Life Party “Living Party”. The Living Party would stand on moral principals that do not go against Church teaching. Then we could stand on principal and get the real message out of PRO-LIFE.

This thread really got me to thinking more complex about Party affiliation. It seems that if supporting a candidate that supports “choice” allowing abortion is evil, then so is supporting parties or candidates for office that support unjust war or death penalty or even abortion options in case of rape and incest or whatever.

Another form of murder is poverty. Poverty kills in real ways. My DW works in a terrible impoverished school where the school estimates that 10 or more students are living in vehicles. People can get so despirate for sustenance that they end up committing crime to survive and ultimately end up in jail. The same is true with drugs. People sometimes get caught up in so much depression and anxiety that they look for unhealthy ways to relieve themselves. Sex, drugs, music are just a few examples. Not justifying their actions, but understanding the human psyche a little….

I am now wondering if since both the 2 main political parties in the USA support the “culture of death” on various levels - maybe even indirectly - then maybe we’re failing to see this from a different perspective. So my question is formed from listening to EWTN, Media and Culture and Politics, Catholicity, Moral Theology, etc.

We’re not obligated to run for office if we have the means to. However, I suppose if you feel that you could do a good job and offer something other candidates couldn’t, more power to you.

This is a bit of a side note, but why is music an immoral way to relieve the stresses of poverty?
