*LOL, annie, not yet. lol

aicirt–basically this is as simple as it gets, it’s just time consuming to skin the apples. :o

First, skin maybe 8 small apples, can be granny smith or like jona gold, something like that. I don’t use the macinstosh kind, too mushy when cooked. I then put them skinned, in a big mixing bowl, sprinkle cinnamon (measured maybe it would be a teaspooon and a half), 3 tablespoons of brown sugar, and 2 teaspoons of reg sugar. I then melt margarine or butter in the microwave…pour over apples, and mix until sugar and butter coats everything. Then you should take hard, cold butter, and with the granola/wheat flour coating (I bought the Marzetti’s brand–same people who make the salad dressings, interestingly enough) and mix up the butter with the dry marzetti mix…hands will have it all over them, but can’t figure out another way to make the crumbly topping. I’ve done this for years, lick the remains off your fingers, it’s yummy if nothing else. lol

Oops, forgot a step…you crumble the butter and dry ingredients over the top of the apples, after they have been added into the baking dish you want to use…I use a square one…about 8 inches. Put the crumblies on top, and then bake for about 30 minutes in a 375 degree preheated oven. It’s nice, because you don’t have the calories of the crust, there is no crust, and the wheat flour is better for you, than regular white flour. All in all, the kids and dh loved it! :)*

*Yes, so true. I kind of need to know a general time though, because I have a bad habit of when I’m cooking, I walk out of the room and get busy doing something else…cleaning, talking on the phone…playing on here…😊 Then, dinner’s ruined. 🤷 I set a timer now to help at least get me back in the kitchen at regular intervals. 😃

I tell ya, peeling apples is TIME CONSUMING…delicious dessert though…it was worth it, but man, that was time consuming. *
hate peeling/coring/slicing myself… but I LOVE fall apple dishes… so I have this:

apple peeler/corer/slicer

a whole pie (or crisp) done in 5 minutes, tops. No lie. 👍 best.invention.ever. genius.

With regard to the butter, I’ve found that regular Smart Balance works just as well. Use the same measures as you would with the butter. I use it in my baking, and everything turns out fine. Especially my bananananana date nut bread 😛

👍 Great product…tastes so similar to butter too!

I’m glad you posted this–I have always wondered how well it works. We have lots of apple orchards around here and they have good deals after abundant harvests. Looks like I’m getting me one of these. 👍

mine works well… :yup: It anchors to the counter by suction, so you need a smooth surface (my wooden table top wouldn’t work, but my formica counter does great). I have found that if you dampen the suction cup and counter a bit, and then push down while working the lever that applies suction, it really holds well. It’s made of sturdy cast metal (steel? aluminum? not sure). The metal does not react with the apple juice and leave that black/gray color… kwim? I didn’t get mine from target (walmart), but except for the color, it’s exactly the same. After I’m done, I rinse immediately really, really well under running water. I don’t even take the peeler componants off unless there’s apple stuck under it. Then I leave it out to air dry completely. And done.

Wow, thank you–Happy birthday to me. 😃 This would solve the problem, but then I might make too many pies. 😊 I used to bake pies as a side business up in PA…for my parish. It was a pretty good business, for the holidays…but, my wrists were so sore from all of that apple peeling!! Thank you again, the price ain’t bad at all! 🙂
