Hello all. We’re having child #7 in June. We have an 8 passenger suburban. Has anyone used the rear facing sears and if so, where can they be purchased? Thanks.

Are you in the US?

If so, virtually all carseats for for young children are rear-facing or able to be installed in a rear-facing configuration.

Typically, the base will click into the anchors that are hidden in the chair where the seat and upright portions meet.

You can get them at virtually any mass retailer. Walmart. Target. Meijer. And if you’re extra-rural, just order one off Amazon.

I don’t think there’s a whole lot of difference in safety between the $100 carseat and a $400 carseat, so long as it isn’t super-old. I even bought one gently used when I had wee ones - of course I knew the people I bought it from.

I wasn’t talking about child safety seats, but a bench seat that can be put in the cargo area.

I’m surprised those are still legal—they’re quite dangerous.

We had a seat like that installed in the back of a Nissan Xterra about a dozen years ago. It came from a company in California called Little Passenger Seats which is still in business. Just google it. It was a great bench seat, was just the right size, had its own seat belts, and the kids loved it. They could see everything out the rear window. They build them specifically for various makes & models, ship to you, and you have it professionally installed. Our usual repair place put ours in.

No intention to debate/attack, but do you have proof for this?

I don’t have proof that I owned the seat, but one may google Little Passenger Seats and see for oneself what is available.

Oh, apologies.

I didn’t think they were either. Looks like online buy-and-ship are the only options I see.

But my buddy’s mom had a station wagon with a rear-facing bench. We thought it was the definition of awesome.

It’s been years since I worked in accident reconstruction, but NHTSA and IIHS didn’t love them. Crash tests are rarely done on the rear of cars, and a rear-end collision in a rear-facing seat is a recipe for disaster.

Get a van.

We only have three kids, but I still love it. Tons of room, you are going to need it.

Doesn’t have to be new, or even that great of a condidtion.

I paid $2k for mine.

For a young family, that may well not be feasible. More americans live paycheck to paycheck than we think.

(OP, no offense meant- I am not trying to call you poor)
