I have been married to my husband for 7 years and have 3 young children. I am currently not a Catholic. We were married in a CofE church. He is an atheist (always has been) and is not baptised. I’m baptised and confirmed CofE. He wants a divorce.

I am considering joining the Catholic Church (I’ve been neglecting my faith since being married to my husband and now we are separated want it to be my focus). Would I be able to get an annulment? I am only 34 so could potentially in the future wish to remarry?

Frankly, no one in this forum should respond to this question with any definitive answer.

A good place to start, if you have not done so already, is to find a local parish priest whom you can speak to about your interest in the Catholic Church.

I’m sorry to hear that.

Maybe.

Firstly, you do not need a decree of nullity to become Catholic.

You need a declaration of freedom to marry in order to enter into another marriage. That might be through a declaration of nullity, if there are grounds for one. Also, since your spouse is unbaptized, you might also apply for a dissolution of the natural bond through favor of the faith (also called Petrine Privilege).

So, this is a one step at a time sort of thing. I can recommend the book Annulment: The Wedding That Was, by Michael Smith Foster, if you want to learn about the Church teaching on marriage, and when a marriage might be invalid. Also, what the favor of the faith dissolution of the natural bond is.
