Rebutting the charge of 'the angry Catholic traditionalist'

I learned something interesting recently: the Roman Rite is the oldest. I had thought the Orthodox was. It goes back to the catacombs.

It was codified by Pius V, I understand. That means, he set the form and disallowed versions which were less than 200 years old. That’s not the same as starting from scratch with a complete rewrite.

It’s a mistake to think that something is only real and true if it exists on paper. Again, a Protestant mistake, I think: ‘Sola Scriptura’.

I think we’ve become fixated with books and intellectualism, generally, in the West. Meanwhile, simple unlettered peasants can have sublime mystical experiences simply by fasting, praying, making small sacrifices and doings works of mercy.

One good ‘trick’ the Orthodox have: ‘The Jesus Prayer’. No degree necessary.

When you stand back from the clever, nuanced (my new favourite word) arguments and just look at what passes for a Rite Of Sacrifice In The Temple Of The Lord God these days, you can see where the problems are. It’s very simple.

You said it well. It was simply an affirmation due to the rebellious against the Mass at teh time. The Mass was being challenged by the rebels and traitors and the Pope had to come to the defense of the Worship of God. That is how the Church has always done when traitors show up and challenge Catholic Teachings. Otherwise there is no reason to even mention since everybody believes.

It was not a mistake but intentional rebelious aganist the Church. It was an acting of hate towards the Church. But I also could believe that God will use such a thing to chastize His people, to bring them back to Him. Just like we are going through right now.
 
I think that yes it’s possible to be an “angry traditionalist” just like it’s possible to be an “angry Catholic” in general, but it’s also possible to be charitable and humble and love the Church’s traditions and attend the Latin Mass 🙂 I’ve met people in the latter category, including priests. It’s not the Latin Mass or tradition that’s at fault. A person could love those things and be a great Christian. After all many Saints went to the TLM 😉
 
Well the only traditional Catholic I know constantly comes across as angry, at least on her Facebook posts.

If she’s not railing against perceived abuses, she’s also attacking public schools, (despite being the product of one herself) people with small families, Catholics who don’t prefer the TLM, the Occupy movement, Obama, Democrats or anyone who’s not on the far right politically, etc, etc.

I know she’s not like this all the time in person, but to anyone who’s not around her a lot, this is the kind of perception she’s created online.
