A good friend has been attending Mass with us. He is protestant, does not attend another church. He has not been asking any questions about our faith. Not pushing him. He received communion the first time / my fault. (Confession) the next time, before Mass I explained to him the reaons he should not be receiving. Good reasons as I know my faith well. From the heart! He did not receive. The next Mass he received again and it hurt a bit. Where would you go from here?

I would maybe explain it to him again that he shouldnt and then what I would do is have a conversation with him about potentially joining the Catholic faith. I would also explain the importance of going through the whole RCIA process. This way he can be in union with the church.

I would pray for him and remember that you can’t control the actions of another person.

I have been going and haven’t received communion because I haven’t been baptized yet… For some reason I researched it beforehand and found out that I shouldn’t take communion because of that, but I wonder how many people just decide, oh I think I like this type of church service, I think I’ll go, and they just follow what everyone else is doing to fit in? How many people just start showing up and taking communion? Would anyone even know the difference? Obviously I’m thankful that I did educate myself and am not doing anything disrespectful to God, because I’ve never been to confession and I’ve certainly done some things I need to confess. But there’s probably people just going up there and going through the motions and not reflecting on what they’re doing.

My church has missalettes which in the front or back cover say the regulations for receiving.
If yours has them, check there so he can read it.

Frankly, I’m not sure why he’d want to “join” a church if he’s already not following our tenets.
