I unfortunately did not know at the time that receiving the Eucharist while in a state of Mortal Sin was considered a Mortal Sin in its own right. Is this something to take up in confession immediately?

If I attend mass, should I remain in the pews instead of accepting Communion until I am able to confess my sins?

**All your questions answer themselves. Yes. However, if you honestly did not know you were supposed to refrain from communion in state of mortal sin, then it is not a mortal sin. You have to know that it is a sin first before being guilty of it. I would confess the mortal sin that you were guilty of first and then mention to the priest that you received without knowing you were not supposed to receive. Try to mention how many times you’ve sinned the particular sin also.

May God bless you.
