Is is possible for an 18 year old Catholic to receive the sacrament through a university/college Catholic community, without going through an RCIA program? My daughter will be going off to college and has not received the sacrament of confirmation yet–she completed the confirmation program online through Catechism Class. Throughout our diocese the confirmation age is either around 8th grade or not until 11th or 12 grade. Because I choose to do ccd (old school I know) at home, I’ve been remiss in fighting the battle to have her confirmed and not enrolled in the parish classes. I have a sophomore who has also completed the online course and he will be confirmed next year in the parish but I can’t have her confirmed this year–it’s too late. I don’t want her to have to go through the whole process as if she was new to the Catholic faith. Thanks.

She should check with the Catholic Campus Ministry/Newman Center at her school to see what they offer.

I used to belong to a university parish and confirmation class started in January and led to confirmation in the Spring. Other places may offer it for a longer or shorter period of time, but usually campus ministry places are prepared to help students who weren’t confirmed in high school.
