I usually don’t read novels but feel like I want to start one.

Novels I have enjoyed in the past:
The Name of the Rose
Les Miserables
The Three body Problem
Memnock the Devil
Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance

You see rather diverse themes.

I think maybe I am looking for a thriller this time, sci-fi or political…I dont know?

Throw something at me.

The Book of Strange New Things by Michel Faber (Canongate Books, 2015). It’s about a Christian missionary on another planet and his concerns for his wife on an Earth that’s going through major upheavals. A very enjoyable read.

If you haven’t read the book Blackhawk down you should.

Something fairly recent: The Sparrow, by Mary Doria Russell. Science fiction, space travel and aliens, with a strong, thought-provoking Catholic theme (the main character is a Jesuit).

Something older: any of the Brother Cadfael mysteries by Ellis Peters. Enjoyable light reading, and Brother Cadfael is my kind of monk. There are 20 books in the series. If you want to start with the first, get A Morbid Taste for Bones.

Something classic: The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoevsky.

I knew I came to the right place. Yes, I have read a few of the Peter’s novels. Nice and light.

Ugh no. Lord of the rings is good but simarillion is just so dry. It’s not even a novel lol it’s more like a reference book

I’m the kind of person that’ll sit down and read an Orthodontics Textbook just because I have braces 😅 I’m always looking into the minute and obscure details of life and fiction 🧐

Nah the hobbit and the lotr. A wiki read of simarillion is sufficient. If they had to read simarillion first they would never start lotr lol

I am currently re-reading ‘Outer Dark’ by Cormac McCarthy. A haunting and unforgettable book. Highly recommended, along with most of McCarthy’s other works.

Colonel Graff: We won! That’s all that matters.
Ender Wiggin: No. The way we win matters.

So true…

I often enjoy reading the instructions to a game more than actually playing it.

Back in the day, game guides were necessary. They were also quite beautiful!

Redeeming Love is honestly one of the best novels I’ve ever read. It’s a Christian tale, and a love story. It’s premise is a guy who is called to marry a prostitute and redeem her. It really goes into a lot of detail about the physical, emotional, and psychological abuse that the former prostitute carries around. Some of the chapters are downright gut-wrenching.
