Hi all,

I have not posted in soooooooooooo long!

It is nice to have the time to come back and see what is happening.

This may not be the right spot for this question, but I was unsure where it fit.

My friend and I are thinking of starting a Catholic Bible Study at our Parish. There is currently no program going at this time. We figure that we cannot be the only ones who are interested in a Bible Study, so why not start one. (of course we have the blessing from the Priest and Deacon). 😃

My question is what programs have people used and does anyone have any recommendations?

What other fun, unique things have people done to keep their Bible Study the place to be on a given weeknight?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Terri

When I returned, I constructed a search engine to get authentic catholic views, on the whole scripturelink.googlepages.com ( add /search to url to get specific search page) is a good place to look for information. see also my blog scripturelinkencyclopedia.stblogs.com other good sources I’ve placed at sites.google.com/site/catholicaffiliates/the-affiliate-review/stblogs#TOC-Some-blogs-we-recommend-in-Stblogs-

I have heard wonderful reviews of the Great Adventure Bible series, although I have not been through it myself. I have used T3: The Teen Timeline (created by the same people), though, with our kids and was very happy with it. I am no theologian, by the way, and there may be something better/less costly/more interesting/more user friendly out there.

Thanks everyone for the great suggestions. I will check them out.

We started off with listening to audios of Scott Hahn & Jeff Cavins in “Our Father’s Plan” from the EWTN library. For a parish program I would use the DVD’s with the study guide put together by a NE US parish, and promoted by Scott Hahn.

We had great success following this study up with Cavin’s “Great Bible Adventure” which we presented several times using DVD’s and the blank timeline sets for everyone to do their own.

It seemed to work better when everyone already had a basic outline of salvation history.

In Christ’s peace and joy,

Robin

If it’s a study for just women, try any of the series by Stacy Mitch.

Corageous Virtue
*Corageous Love *

There’s another Corageous … but the title escapes me.

As another poster said, the [Great Adventure (http://www.greatadventureonline.com/) is FANTASTIC! It can be a bit pricy, but there are things you can do to help that. First, always call Ascension Press directly to order. They can often give discounts over the phone that aren’t on their website. Second, contact your diocesan A/V person (or someone in the Religious Ed office). Many dioceses have diocesan resource centers that lend materials out to parishes. Perhaps they already have the DVDs or else are willing to purchase them. Either way, it’s worth a phone call to find out.

Other great places to go:

A group of women and I are having great discussions with a 7-week study using Spiritual Progress by Thomas D. Williams.

Perhaps by following the daily readings eg. usccb.org/nab/ and a suitable catholic commentary on those readings homilies.com/frames_sunda…lies/index.htm
A little late with this post but I hope it helps

I have bought a NJB standard- it has wondrous notes- even explains Apocalypse, just don’ get it to a protestant, allot of apologetic verses are explained away by scholarisms, which aren’t necessarily accurate (Like "this generation will not pass away- it says refers to the temple, which could be, but does away with a wonderful equation, mind you, maybe I’m reading the wrong verse, also thought Corinthians 10 was rendered with horrid notes, until I saw I was looking at the wrong verse, do that not so often any longer- wonderful read, and notes though)- it is however wondrous, and wonderful (Best translation of the not too catholic translations)
