Recommended Reading for surviving widow

My mother in law, who does not really have a religion, is 78 and lost her husband last year. She is going through a terrible grieving process and sometimes “just wants to die and be with Russell”. I feel she wants to believe that there is something after this life.

I am looking for some suggestions of things she can read or I can read to her to help her with this grieving process and hopefully help her get into the “ARK”.

Any help would be appreciated.

The grief of many of our elder brothers and sisters is so deep and painful for them. I personally witnessed this with my father as well as with an uncle. I will pray for your mother.

I was going to recommened “A Grief Observed” by C.S.Lewis. I am not so sure though this is the book for her. It is more about Lewis’s questioning his faith after the loss of his wife. However he never looses his faith and comes back stronger then before. It shows his pain and sorrow in a way I would think she could relate.

It’s a quick and easy read, perhaps you can read it and decide if it is a good book for your Mother in Law.

I’m so sorry for the grief and sorrow. Even without being religious, maybe she can get insight from “Walk With Me Jesus” which was written by a widow. Johnette Benkovic has some resources on her Women of Grace website that might be helpful. She is also a widow. God bless.
