First of all, I am not a Catholic, but I feel for the burden that igator99 is carrying in not being able to get to a priest for confession! You poor thing! God does not intend for us to be weighed down in sin. Confess it and let it go!
But can someone please explain to me why, after confessing to Jesus Himself, as in the beautiful prayer above, that one would have to also confess to another human being?? Unless, of course you are asking forgiveness from one you have sinned against. What can a priest offer you that Jesus can’t?

Don’t forget that you can walk up to any priest before or after Mass and ask him to hear your confession.

Also, you might want to find one nearer where you work or go to school, that will cut down on the travel time.

Thank you for the list. It is more like four. They list the same ones several times. They are all the same. By appointment during the week and on Saturdays or a small shot in the early evening and on Saturdays. Thank you for the list. It looks like Most Holy Trinity has the earliest time on Saturday.

Can I tell you something? This is my biggest complaint about the Catholic Church in America.

Confession is a pain in the neck. All the scheduled times are on Saturday afternoons-- it’d be easier for me to go to Confession at 4 AM on a Tuesday than 4 AM on a Saturday! Parishes really need to shake this up; it’s simply not a good practice for EVERY parish in a metropolitan area to have confession at the same time.

If there’s a Latin Mass chapel near you, try them. Typically, they have confession before and after every Mass (daily or Sunday). It’s the same format for confession as the English parishes. Otherwise, call the parish and ask to schedule an appointment-- usually it works out that the priest will be in the confessional booth at a certain time, so you still maintain your anonymity.

OLL is the place I made confession last on a Saturday. I will make time to go this Saturday. I think a few of you guys miss the point. I’m in a state or mortal sin. I have to wait until Saturday to go to confession. According to the laws of the Church if I die before then I go to Hell. This is in my mind a grave matter indeed. Confession should be more available to us or the laws be a bit less strict. New Orleans is the same or worse. They are closing churches down there since Katrina. Not sure about BR but if I can’t make it during the week to a church that is 10 minutes from my house I can’t make it to BR which is an hour and a half away.

I appreciate the poster that said they have the same problem and basically to make the best confession you can to god and then go to confession as soon as possible.

Make an appointment!! Keep calling churches till you find a priest that will hear your confession. Parishes in my area are the same. Saturday confession sometimes being the only one I can get to. If I can’t there are a number of churches in other areas I can go during the week. I make time. I had trouble with confession as well when I came back to the church after many years away…it wasn’t like it was before. I had to accept it. I worked it out and moved on. Hope you are able to do the same.

I don’t think it is by choice. There are just to few priests to be so accommodating. I’m going to try not to let it bother me and pray I don’t die before Saturday. In the end I must trust in God. However I must say that this is a spiritual trap that I wish the Church would address. It seems like the priests and the Churches around here are almost saying don’t worry about it. Yet it is still a very important part of our faith. I enjoyed confession. I felt like a million bucks walking out.

If you can’t make it to confession under any cirumstance. You can’t setup an appointment, or anything and can’t make it until Saturday, then I suppose a perfect contrition is an option, however it’s not something to be taken lightly, God knows the truth. You are risking putting yourself in deeper if you skip an opportunity to go to confession.

I don’t know if that is close to you? They have a full hour on Saturday, but like you said it’s 3:45 to 4:45.

The thing to remember is that, as far as I know unless something special is going on, you can’t have confessions on Sundays or Holy Days. So no matter where you live, you would have to go during the week, or Saturday.

Have you tried calling all the Churches in the area for an appointment?

Lastly, if nothing else, here is what I would do if I lived where you do, and absolutely had no other option. I would as often as I could, once every couple of weeks, or once a month, or once every couple months, whatever I could do, I’d make the trip to Baton Rouge, or New Orleans and find somewhere, anywhere to go to confession. Even if that meant calling a church in one of those places to set an appointment.

If i had that hard of a time getting to confession, i would write my bishop about my situation. i doubt that you are the only person who has the desire to go to confession and if people do not let the bishop know that there is a problem he cant fix it

You are very lucky. The times I’ve been able to go to Saturday reconciliation, the line was very short and OLL is a very large parish. If they had confession before Mass I would imagine more Catholics would be confessing. I really think it is a priest shortage. They only have two priests and four Masses on Sunday. That is two priests for a parish of at least 8,000 people. Oh well no use in complaining. I want to thank all of those for your import.
