As one who doesn’t care one way or the other, it surprises me that so many people have strong preferences in the matter and that, in fact, my indifference to the issue is the minority! Who knew? 🙂

For face to face or behind a screen, I have no strong preferences, although I have always been behind a screen (default, I guess).

This is sort of funny…I answered face to face with my regular confessor, but it occurs to me that I almost never look at him, until I’m done. Maybe I should try it behind the screen! 😃

Face to face, before the iconostasis, and in from of the icon of Christ Pantocrator.

Then again, in traditional byzantine parishes, there are no confessionals; FTF is how it is done!

It feels more like I am talking to God, rather than having a chat with the priest. And I feel freer to say what I really need to say.

I prefer face to face confession. at my parish and other parishes I go to, they have a reconciliation room where you have the option of face to face or behind the screen. the only exception that I go behind the screen is one of the parishes in my cluster where my associate pastor/confessor helps out because they only have the screen (but he knows my voice anyway and sometimes he offers face to face - at his former parish he offered face to face and it was the traditonal confessional with the screen)
