The article says that there couldn’t have been a first human pair. That new species need a couple of thousand of pairs to get off the ground.

Science is not competent to provide a full explanation.

Peace,
Ed

I understand and respect this ban.

Nonetheless, Catholicism is precise with its doctrine that there are two, real, sole parents of the human species.

To reconcile Adam and Eve with science, it is not necessary to attack science in general. What is necessary is to understand the individual sciences that seek information about our ancient ancestors. It is important to understand their area of expertise and most important their limitations. For example, a lot of assumptions are being made when it comes to gathering data from millions and millions of years going backwards. Fossils don’t leave diaries.

What surprised me was this sentence from the link, part 2. “There is certainly no scope for understanding this particular passage [from *Genesis] as referring to the addition to adam of an immaterial immortal ‘soul’.” Usually the denial of an immaterial immortal soul is disguised by the material explanation of an epiphenomenon, i.e., something emerging from the anatomical structure perhaps as part of cultural awakening to the possibility of good and evil.

Even though in the article’s section on Genesis, there is the implication that soul might be in other parts of Scripture, in my humble opinion, the author was downplaying Genesis in particular because Genesis does say a lot about the origin of human nature according to Catholic teachings found in the* Catechism of the Catholic Church, Second Edition.*

Basic Catholic teachings **regarding Adam, Human Nature and Original Sin **
are found in the
Catechism of the Catholic Church, Second Edition, ISBN: 1-57455-109-4
Paragraphs 355-421.

The good news of Jesus Christ follows in Paragraph 422, etc.

One can put the word paragraph and its number in the Catechism’s search bar in link
www.scborromeo.org/ccc.htm

Entering topics is also very useful since the Catechism does expand on the basics and implications. Do check out the Index.
