For the last ten years , i have always had this dream of missing my flight or not wearing enough clothes for an important event or realizing i had not studied enough when arriving at the examination hall .

How should i do deal with this? It is quite distressing to me when i am in my sleep. The only time the dream corrected itself with relief was when i decided to learn Latin some months ago. But i dropped it again because it is too technical and scientific for me , i chose Greek instead and loved it.

Would seeing a Priest help?

These are very common “anxiety dreams” and I’ve probably had all three of those dreams a few dozen times each in my life. From what I’ve read, many people have had the exact same dreams, they are all among the most common dreams people have.

I don’t think you need to see a priest, rather you might consider whether you’re anxious or worried about something in your life and what you can do to resolve it. Also, consider whether poor sleep could be triggered by some physical thing such as what you eat before bed or the conditions under which you go to sleep (like is it noisy, is it very late at night etc). If it’s really messing with your sleep, then see a doctor.

It sounds like just a normal garden variety nightmare that most people get. I have the ones about forgetting to wear clothes all the time. I know my mum has been dreaming about showing up to high school and forgetting where her class is for the past thirty years.

I know that doesn’t help when you’re having them and it feels scary but these type of dreams are usually just triggered by anxiety or stress so reducing that is probably the best you’ll be able to do. It’s very unlikely to be spiritual in nature so I wouldn’t bother seeing a priest.

Dreams like these, especially the school test dream, are quite common. In fact, I don’t think I know anyone, among my friends and family who discuss dreams, who has never had it. If they are frequent enough to disrupt your sleep schedule, seeing some sort of counselor might help.

In short, if it doesn’t bother you, you can, in most cases, ignore it. If God is directly speaking to you, and wants you to involve others, you can count on Him to confirm it, in other ways.

So, God Bless, and sleep well!

I graduated high school more than 30 years ago.

I’ve had this dream where I haven’t really graduated HS, and I need to go back to finish. When I get there I’m stared at by all the kids. Or my uniform doesn’t fit, or I can’t fit in the desk.

I got my bachelor’s degree 35 years ago, and I still have occasional nightmares that I had some required class in something incomprehensible like advanced math or physics, and I somehow never went to class for most of the semester, haven’t done anything for a huge required project due in a day or two, and am in danger of not graduating as a result. I then start to wake up and realize I have graduated from undergrad and grad school already.

I usually dream that I realize I forgot a single high school class that I need to graduate, and that the final is tomorrow and I don’t even know what the class is about.

For some reason it never occurs to me in the dream that it doesn’t matter at all. If I realized at this point my high school diploma was invalid, I wouldn’t get off the couch to correct it, much less cram for a trig exam.

So, you see, OP, you’re not alone! Many people have dreams, similar to yours. I just wanted to add, with this social isolation, and real fear of the COVID virus, you may have had more time than usual to think-and worry!

Please, try not to let it take over your life! Take care, and God Bless!!!

Incidentally, I actually know a guy with a masters in accounting who doesn’t have a high school diploma.

THANK YOU EVERYBODY! I never expected this occurrence to be so common. Last night i dream i was late for my flight at 10am but was called and offered another flight later in the day at 6pm . Was glad the lateness happened and i turned down the latter offer because the country was infested with on going pandemic hahahah.

But yeah i feel anxiety everyday , that i am being lazy and not doing the will of God. Even though i pray a lot and keep myself occupied with Catholic readings.

GED?

I know a medical doctor with an MD who never earned a bachelor’s degree. No one ever believes him until he relates his rather lengthy story.

interesting…i did not pursue further education after the age of 17 and always wanted to know if i could pursue something higher up the rung.

Nope. He was one of those brilliant kids who slacked in high school. He got into a really good undergrad based on his SAT score, but never finished some random class second semester senior year. The school told him he’d have to go to summer school, and then he just didn’t. Thing is, his undergrad never actually verified that he finished high school: he was already admitted by second semester senior year. So he just showed up in the fall, started his classes, and no one ever asked.

It sounded strange to me until I thought about it and realized my undergrad never asked me for proof I graduated high school either. I was admitted by like February of my senior year, and I’m not sure they would have caught it if never finished. I don’t think anyone has ever asked me to prove I graduated high school.

I don’t know about you, but my law school asked for a copy of it with my application, although I was applying 16 years after high school and was also including my bachelors’ and masters’ transcripts. Can’t imagine why they would care given that I had obviously shown my ability to do college level work at that point.

Pretty sure mine did not, although I may have had to list it for my bar application come to think of it.

So sorry to hear you are having stressful dreams. They are in fact very common. I would recommend writing down your worries on a piece of paper before you go to bed. It can help to release these anxieties so you do not dream about them.

Also, I saw in one of your comments that you have anxiety. You should look into seeing a Catholic therapist if you are open to it. That can be very very helpful 🙂

I will pray you have good dreams tonight!! I say before bed most nights… “Dear God, please help me not have any nightmares, and only have dreams that are in accordance with your will. Amen”

i will try that , thank you 🙂 the anxiety makes wears me down tired. THANK YOU!

I completely understand!! “Searching for and Maintaining Peace: A Small Treatise on Peace of Heart” by Jacques Philippe Is a really nice book I bought recently. Written by a Catholic priest. So helpful for people with anxiety 🙂 it’s around $7 on Amazon. I think it may help you!!
