I couldn’t find a forum about this here so I created one myself. First off, is there anybody on here that watches the CBS show The Mentalist? If so, were you satisfied with who Red John turned out to be?

I am a fan of *The Mentalist *re-runs, but have not seen it for some time…:o

Who did Red John turn out to be?

Thank you.😃

One of my favourite TV shows, I’m ambivalent about the identity of Red John. Red John being a small town sheriff…feels like something they (the writers) pulled out of a hat, but then again I don’t think any of the 5 finalists would have been satisfactory. The whole Blake brotherhood seemed like it would go somewhere and maybe it’s still in the wings. I loved tonight’s episode, I was suspicious of that new woman from the beginning.

AAAAA! I live on the west coast! I haven’t seen it yet!

I didn’t vote, because the poll options don’t reflect my opinion.

I was disappointed, but not because the character was “an idiot” or that the battle represented something deeper. I just prefer stories like this to weave more together, and Red John’s identity seemed a bit too arbitrary.

On another note, when he did the “Red John voice” in the scene in the funeral chapel, I don’t think it could have sounded more ridiculous coming out of his mouth. It sounded so absurd that I blurt out laughing.

I’m really surprised nobody has questioned the morality of Jane killing Red John, do you think it could be considered as being a case where the criminal is just impossible to handle otherwise?

Yeah, I felt too like the writers just sort of pulled this out of a hat. I have no idea if they had this planned all along, from the first appearance of the Sheriff earlier in the series, or if they just threw darts at a board posted with their recurring characters. I do think they felt compelled to wrap up the Red John storyline since I think the show has been in danger of cancellation for a couple of years. But it all seemed kind of rushed and didn’t totally hang together.

I have yet to see the episode after Jane kills the Sheriff. But I fully expect there to be no consequences. Much like there will be no consequences for the other guy he shot in the church. And there were no consequences for the other “Red John” he shot a couple of seasons ago in a shopping mall. And there will be no further investigation or consequences for the explosion at his property a couple of episodes ago that killed 2 of his suspects (and, so far as the authorities believed, the Sheriff as well). Even if Jane didn’t plant the bomb, there doesn’t even seem to be any concern for investigating the scene at which they would turn up Jane’s shotgun.

Well I guess it is TV after all.
