There is enough interest to sustain an Eastern Catholicism FAQ reference thread. Unlike other reference threads where a single person makes 7+ posts on a single topic, the Eastern Catholicism FAQ reference thread will be an opportunity for many people to have minimal involvement. Many hands make light work!
Like a “master community,” the closed thread will be planned and artificially constructed. It would not be a place for dialogue. This is the brainstorming/rough draft thread. What I am specifically looking for is questions and answers which are non-controversial, accurate, and succinct. The poster’s church affiliation is not of consequence.
Examples of the questions I would expect to see in the Eastern Catholicism FAQ reference thread:

What I am specifically looking for is questions and answers which are non-controversial, accurate, and succinct. The poster’s church affiliation is not of consequence.
Examples of the questions I would expect to see in the Eastern Catholicism FAQ reference thread:
- Do Eastern Catholic priests marry?
- What is the hierarchical structure in Eastern Catholic churches?
- What is the difference between rites and churches?
- Who may receive communion where?
- When did the Eastern Catholic churches come into union?
- What are icons and how are they used?
- What’s different about Communion in the Eastern Catholic churches?
- What do these words mean?
- What are the common liturgical greetings?
- Any other question you would like to answer which meets the reference thread criteria. Topics such as spirituality, history, liturgical practices, and festal celebrations would be a few examples.
**
In choosing answers to include in the FAQ, these will be among the things I will consider:**
-Do the question and answer abide by our forum rules, especially those considering charity, the use of the words schismatic and heretic, and our banned topics?
-Is the answer non-controversial? This requirement is not intended to require answers to shy away from verifiable facts, but to keep contentious debates out of the reference threads. An example unlikely to meet this criteria is the filioque.
-Does the answer reflect the various eastern and oriental traditions or clearly identify which traditions it is referring to?
-Does the answer explain possible differences of opinion and avoid passing opinions off as facts?
-Does the answer correctly reference or cite sources as necessary?
-Is the topic appropriately placed in the Eastern Catholicism forum?
-Is the answer free of error? Would the information lead to grave negative consequences if they were believed to be true and turned out to be false? Interpretations of canon law are unlikely to meet this criteria.
