Regarding sexuality and nudity in movies

I would be a lot more concerned about the violence of war depicted in movies such as “Braveheart” and “The Patriot” than about the sexual content. Somehow no one else seems to be bothered about it.

I think something else that should probably be taken into consideration is the point given to the sex, nudity, violence, etc. depicted in the movie. If, for example, the movie showed and glorified an adulturous relationship, I would have a problem with it. Not just because of potential nudity or sex scenes, but because of the message the film makers are putting across. If the scene involved a husband and wife and glorified their love, I would have a different take on it.

And, of course, for most films I would say such content should be cut altogether.; most of the story lines have no need for these scenes.

That would depend on the person. For a man it would be different than for a woman for apparent reasons. I think this is subjective and should be avoided by people who are led to sin by them. I can watch sdome brief sex scenes or implied sex scenes without a problem. But the hot heavy full nudity full thrusting, that is a problem for me. Sometimes it can be artfull, other times it can just be sleezy.

Obviously, every movie that causes a person to sin is to be avoided; but where does one draw the line between morally acceptable (in other words, minor) sexuality or nudity in films, and that which is harmfully erotic and sinful? Are all such films to be avoided? I personally think it is a good idea to avoid such movies, but is it a mortal sin to view even a film with nudity and/or sexuality that is tastefully done and not a temptation (such as Braveheart or Titanic)???

I’d appreciate feedback on this.

I’d say first off that it would have to cause temptation or sin for the person for it to be sinful.

Everyone has their little (or big!) weakness. Some people eat a lot, others are angry. Some people tend towards negativity, others have trouble with lust.

I’ve noticed that movies don’t represent a temptation for me. I do think many movies with nudity or graphic scenes and implied scenes can be quite tacky or distasteful.

Few movies seem to get that part right.

But I must say that 300 was almost there! The cinematography was very good.

If something doesn’t stand out but you can do without it, you can say it fits well and is probably not totally unwarranted, but you can’t say it’s necessary.

Also, the plot is not the ultimate excuse; it’s not an absolute value. This is to say that, “the plot required it,” is no excuse for anyone, for the plot also can be judged. The plot may have required a scene, but what required the plot itself?

Exactly. “Does it fit in?” Is a wrong question. The right question is, “Is it necessary?”

I know a good many good Catholics who don’t seem to have a problem with it, if it seems more or less fitting in the story and whatnot, even if it’s not absolutely necessary (and frankly, the absolute necessity to see real naked actors does not exist). I can’t be convinced. I just always see people who want to see some skin and people who want to show some skin. Both seem to me like children, especially those who want to show. It’s like clothes are suffocating them, like they can’t leave behind the childish desire to get out of clothes and roam around free. It works me up a great deal. It annoys me.

One of the biggest myths is that sex in marriage is boring…on the contrary it is a ‘physical blessing’…hardly surprising as God invented sex ! On the topic of movies i can tell you i was both shocked and disappointed recently when i accompanied nieces and nephews to see EPIC MOVIE…to make it worse i hadn’t been to movies for ages. Filthy language , blasphemy , inappropriate suggestive girating from semi-nude female actresses…i actually felt ill after the show. I would love to hear what American bloggers think about young folk around the world being subjected to such trash !!! Is this what Hollywood is going to be unleashing on the world in the future…? In a recent e-mail Dave Armstrong [APOLOGIST] told me bluntly that church unity would not have its roots in the USA…has the USA lost its moral compass ? If so what a shame…my father [88] fought with the Americans in ww2 and he told me of the respect he had for the average American. Please tell me things haven’t changed !!! In 1966 the churches withdrew from the entertainment industry and all manner of misfortune followed. Violent crime has increased in the United States by 560 percent, illegitimate births have increased 419 percent, divorce rates have quadrupled, the percentage of children living in single-parent homes has tripled, the teenage suicide rate has increased more than 300 percent and SAT scores have dropped by almost 80 points.

The illegal immigration crisis offers wonderful opportunities to judge the integrity of our leaders: will they abide by their oath to uphold the Constitution and enforce immigration law, or will they capitulate to powerful business interests and strong globalist forces and perpetuate lawlessness?

What does the law say about illegal immigration? Under Title 8 Section 1325 of the U.S. Code, “Improper Entry by Alien,” anyone who Enters or attempts to enter the United States at any time or place other than as designated by immigration officers has committed a federal crime. Violations are punishable by fines and/or prison, and, according to the Immigration and Nationality Act Section 237 (a)(1)(B): Any alien who is present in the United States in violation of this Act or any other law of the United States is deportable."

Have our leaders followed the law? No. Even after 9/11, many American cities remain safe havens where local law enforcement is forbidden to notify the immigration authorities when they have apprehended an illegal alien. 33 percent of our prison population is now comprised of non-citizens, and when they are released from prison they are not deported, but rather, let loose back into our country.

President Bushs immigration plan grants amnesty for millions of illegal aliens (amnesty is setting aside the penalty of a law that has been violated). How can this protect American citizens or uphold and defend the Constitution? God will hold us accountable to our oaths, even if the constituents wont.

Just as your neighbors need permission to enter your home, foreigners need permission to enter our country. It is in our best interest to keep out criminals, terrorists, and the unproductive that just want to suckle on the Federal teat. All who invade our country illegally are criminals and should be punished and deported.

We dont need to evict all twenty million illegal aliens. Punish employers of illegal aliens. Forbid cities from letting illegal aliens stay. Disallow the children of illegal aliens from being given citizenship. Forbid them from getting Medicaid or Social Security. Make a hasty exit from our country an act of self-preservation and the path of least resistance, and illegal immigrants will leave. Let them come if it can be shown first that they are not criminals or terrorists and that they are productive, but our national security trumps their job opportunities in our country.

It has been said that illegal aliens are doing jobs Americans just wont do. If only it were true: in fact, 36 to 42 percent of illegal aliens are on welfare. Moreover, any American will do that job if it pays well enough. Americans probably wont do it for less than minimum wage, which is what employers are paying illegal aliens.

Its time for Republicans to abandon false remedies that exacerbate the malady, and return to traditional Republican principles. Lets put the government in its proper place: to protect life, liberty, property, and our borders from invaders, not be the chief violator of those rights.
