Beer. Nothing proves that God is benevolent and all-loving than beer.

Seriously though, it’s an interesting question. I hope you get some good suggestions.

St. Ignatius of Loyola tells Jesuits that if they are ever in a position where their prayer is interrupted, to make sure thay make an examination of conscience each day. Practice the presence of God, review the gifts of the day in great detail, invoke the Holy Spirit’s aid, review each hour by hour, and make an Act of Contrition. This discipline will give you the habits of freedom and make your individual actions so much more powerful.

Disclaimer: people’s faiths are as individual as the people themselves, and so are the appropriate means of rekindling them.

What I would suggest is spending some serious time with people who are serious about God. For the shy or the busy, this can be done by the literary method: spend lots of time reading things written by (or even about) people who are/were serious about God. Catholics pretty much have a corner on this, what with the lives of all the saints. For the less shy/busy, this can be done by going on retreats to monasteries/convents, or by joining study/discipleship groups. For those in between, joining online fora can help, especially because it raises the possibility that you will meet dangerous heretics who will call upon you to assert and defend what you really believe.

I recommend frequent confession (make sure it is a worth confession - confessing all moral sins by kind and approximate number) and frequent (daily if possible) reception of Holy Communion.

Also, please pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy (at the three o’clock hour is possible) for your friend.

Sometimes reading a good Catholic book really lets ur spirituality grow. Reading the lives of the saints inspires one to think, “Wow! That person was so holy and in love with God. I want to try to be like that”. Give it a try. It’s advice passed down from my family. 🙂

I would refer them to this website to find strength and some answers to their questions.

I would also recommend (something that helped me to learn more about the faith in a simple way) going to catholicity.com and order a few of Fr. Larry Richards tapes (The Truth or if they are Catholic, the Mass Explained). These tapes are great. Fr. Larry is so entertaining, I highly recommend them. All they ask for is a donation to get the tapes.

Has anyone ever listened to them? Maybe I will start a different thread later.
