I know there are numerous Relevant Radio listeners out there who, while liking Drew (or maybe not liking Drew), miss CA Live (“Live” being the operative word!) and Kresta in the Afternoon.

After contacting an anonymous source of mine over at RR (heehee) I discovered that the best way to (politely) request a reconsideration of this programming line-up is to contact the executive director of programming and production – Sherry Brownrigg. Judging by the e-mail addresses of other RR employees, I think her e-mail address is sbrownrigg@relevantradio.com .

So – I plan to e-mail her tonight to voice my (polite) opinion on the loss of CA Live in particular… no matter how much I like Drew, CA Live is worth far more to the New Evangelization IMHO. Either move Drew up an hour or have him on instead of their rerun of Morning Air, I say. 😉

She is in the Twin Cities office, but would still be the one to contact for any RR listeners out there, no matter what city you’re from.

BTW - here are the reasons my source gave me for why this decision was made in the first place -

A) to have more network-specific content (so that RR can better control what is being broadcast, by having homegrown shows),
B) to improve the signal quality in the afternoons, apparently Kresta in particular had on-air quality issues and
C) there were marketing and production reasons for having a 3-hour block of programming from 3-6pm – that is the common practice among radio networks, and makes it easier to compete apparently.

According to him, if only CA Live was on either later in the evening or earlier in the day, there would have been no issue with keeping it… too bad.

Guess that’s what happens when you’re one of the earliest Catholic radio programs out there and had the pick of the timeslots!! LOL 🙂

Thank you, veritas. I will contact her, but I have already complained (I think politely), and discontinued my automatic monthly checking account deduction for R.R. specifically because of this change.

You are too kind, I think, in accepting this explanation. I suppose some of it is true, but it leaves much unexplained, e.g., why there is NO opportunity to catch a Thursday CA program, the Friday a.m. time slot having been given over to an audio account of the most recent Catholic Spirit (bad enough in print).

It was because of the prompting of Johnny Holchraft (sp?) and Jerry Usher that I subscribed to RR in the first place, and now, if I can’t stay glued to my computer at 5 pm, there’s no live CA at all.

I will support Dr. Ray, but no automatic stuff anymore.

God bless,

Anna

I like the Drew Mariani Show but I do ever so much miss CA Live.

I stopped listening to RR after these unfortunate changes were made.

I live close to Ann Arbor and get WDEO (Ave Maria Radio) strong and clear, so I hear Al Kresta daily. WDEO carries Catholic Answers Live, too (not tape delays).

I do not like Drew Mariani’s show, but that’s just personal preference – and I REALLY don’t like Sherry Brownrigg’s “radio voice.”

I too like Drew but miss CA live. Also what happened to Teresa Tomio in the morning? I liked her.

I totally agree that they should rearrange the program schedule. I agree that Drew should be on in the evening instead of the repeat of Morning Air. I listen to Morning Air before work each day and after work I would listen to Catholic Answers. Now I am missing my CA and I really don’t need to listen to Morning Air for a second time in the same day.

I am grateful for Relevant Radio. It is an answer to my prayers. However, I too am disappointed at some of the programming changes. If Relevant Radio is to be “relevant”, it should be keeping programs that invite live caller participation. Catholic Answers should therefore remain in its regular, live time slot. I am also upset that other live programs, including Tim Staple’s “Reasons for Faith”, and Johnette Benkovic’s “Moments of Truth” have been completely eliminated from the lineup.

I also agree that Morning Air does not need to be repeated in the evening. How “relevant” can an evening broadcast of a program called “Morning Air” be? Drew’s program is o.k., but it would probably be better if it were two hours instead of three. In fact, no Relevant radio program should be longer than two hours/day, especially when many other fine EWTN based programs are being sacrificed for them.

I’m not about to withhold donations to Relevant Radio because of this. I lived in a place where Catholic radio folded because of lack of listener support, and I don’t want to see it happen again. But I do plan to make my opinions known to them with my next quarterly donation.

In the meantime, if anyone would like to hear Catholic Answers Live in its normal time slot, I would suggest getting a shortwave radio.

If you want to hear CA, just go to catholic.com and click on Listen Live. Past programs are also archived going back several years.
