Don’t Christians believe that God commanded Abraham (pbuh) to sacrifice his only son… only for the son to be substituted with a ram at the very last moment?Didn’t Allah at first command that Muslims should pray 50 times a day?
Did God change His mind in this instance?.. Of course not.
Just as this was a test of obedience from God for Prophet Abraham (pbuh), so too was it a test of a different nature for Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) to ask God to reduce the number of daily prayers for the faithful.
Remember, it was only a request from Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and Allah could have said ‘No’ if He had not agreed to it.
Those who believe in the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) will realise that this was one of many tests for him throughout his Prophethood and there is indeed a very significant lesson to be learned from this particular episode with regard to his standing on the Day of Judgment.
