HELLO

I was recently involved in a thread called “Islam spread through sword and coercion” in the non-catholic forum, the topic is pretty obvious but I began to venture away from the topic and instead found myself asking why the topic needed to be bought up in the first place, my few positions being that:
  1. this is a Catholic forum, either people will agree or disagree and the Muslims who are on this forum obviously would disagree and defend their faith no matter what.
  2. I feel that it’s more unproductive or whatever the word is, lol:D than productive to talk about how Islam spread, when we know it does not change anything (again this is a Catholic forum, it’s either an agree or disagree deal).
these 2 among a few more but you get the jist
…Now I pretty much replied to inJESUS posts while on that particular thread and his feeling was basically that “No one is saying that every single thread must result in something” and “It intrests me as well because not so long ago, my people had to hid in caves because of Muslims” but what do you guys and gals think about the subject, don’t you think that it takes time way from things we could be talking, or typing about (radical Islam’s solution for today) mostly? What’s your opinion?
PS: if i posted this in the wrong place let me know, I have it copied and can paste it were it should be, THANKS

I appreciate what you’re saying. However, about the only way to get rid of it, is to eliminate the “non-catholic religions” category. I don’t think that would be productive.
We need exchange ideas and try to understand other faiths. That is the place to do it. I think we should be overly cautious in moderating posts that attack other religions in an uncharitable way. We can challenge, though.

Besides, non-catholics post here. So these conversations are going to get started. Why not have a category for them?

I do not want anybody to eliminate the non-catholic forum, it’s the only forum I really pay attention to, but I don’t think that threads like “Islam spread through sword and coercion” are meant to just exchange ideas, I understand that people are people and want to sometimes challenge something or someone that they disagree with, but I think a line is crossed when instead of just challenging with a question to someone of another religion I seem to see more of…
“Islam spread through sword and coercion”

any smart person can see that all this does is get a Muslim member to post and try to refute a thread like…
“Was Mohammad without sin like Jesus? If not, how can Muslims claim he is greater than Jesus?”

knowing full well that the question is not really a question because
no matter what the Muslim member might say to refute, all he’s really doing is playing the antagonist until the thread has run it’s course (the question was not asked to hear an answer from a reliable source, just to hear an answer that was going to be refuted anyway) which makes you wonder why such threads are ever posted in the first place, I mean I love the threads some are entertaining and thought provoking, but just curious to the motives of some that seem suspect coming from the keyboard of a religious person.

I agree with you. I think I misunderstood your original post.
