Religious Congregation of Mary Immaculate Queen

I have a friend who is started going to mass at a center run by a group called the Congregation of Mary Immaculate Queen…

He said he wants me to come with him one time… I understand they’re a traditionalist Catholic organization… Is this group in good standing with the Church?
 
Wikepedia says they are a Sedevacantist group. That means they are not in good standing with the Church.
 
They are a Sedevacantist organization; they believe that Vatican II invalidated all of the Sacraments and they believe that there is currently no pope. I’ve been to their chapel in Tacoma twice, and they’re very adamant about their position and beliefs. They are very nice and welcoming people though.
 
So their mass, apostolic succession, and Eucharist aren’t valid then?

The mass should be Valid if the Priest presiding was made a Priest prior to Vatican 2.

I don’t know the particulars of this grey area…

The Traditional Latin Mass is beautiful. I had hoped they would of brought back the final Gospel with the current changes in the Novus Ordo mass.

Sorry. Poor attempt at humor. It was a reference to the phrase “I wouldn’t touch it with a ten foot pole.”

I don’t care when the priest was ordained, who the bishop is, what liturgy they do, or if they give out hundred dollar bills at Mass. Denying the authority of the Holy Father is a non-starter for me.

I agree with TimH. I know these folks pretty well as they are located in our state. They also have a chapel near us. Kind of weird. Very traditional but weird.

10 foot pole for them.

Yes, they’re Holy Orders are completely valid, although illicit given they’re schism. You don’t need to be in Communion with Rome to have valid Sacraments, if you did the Church wouldn’t have ever recognized the validity of the Orthodox Churches (who are also schismatic). That being said validity (save in grave danger of death) isn’t the Catholic’s only preference, so I strongly suggest that you find another Latin Mass (or Catholic Byzantine rite) in your area (see if you have any local SSPX, FSSP, ICKSP, or diocesean traditionalist chapels) .

They can be valid, but they are illegal. Catholics are not to attend illegal celebration of the sacraments.

Do you want to attend a mass because it pleases you or do you want to be faithful to the Church?

Sometimes, we can’t have it both ways. We try and it can happen that we can have it both ways. Then there are times, when submission to Church law trumps our preferences.

We have a parish of CMIQ next door in Spokane. I visited there when I was first learning about Catholicism. They were the only Catholic bookstore I could find in town at the time. I bought my rosary there. The shop is staffed by a community of sisters in residence there. I didn’t know they were SV at the time and didn’t really have a fully formed idea of what that involved. Not knowing I asked the sister when checking out if they had any Divine Mercy items. She kindly but firmly gave me a little lecture on their position and how things “used to be” (I assume she meant pre-Vatican II). Very interesting
