I’m a parish coordinator of religious education, and I am looking for texts and materials that teach the truths of our Catholic faith without all the fluff you find in many series. We only have a little over an hour a week with the students (K-12), so we need basic, true to the magisterium materials. I would appreciate your ideas.

Have you looked at Ignatius Press’ Faith & Life series? It is Grades 1-12.

Also the Image of God series I think was written by the folks at EWTN and goes at least pre-K through grade 8.

At my last parish, we used Faith First, and while you could teach orthodoxy from it, as written it is very fluffy. They have a big website www.faithfirst.com that you can check out.

Take a look at www.chcweb.com which is a homeschool store for some more ideas. I really like their “A year with God” book for ideas on how to teach by celebrating the feasts of the liturgical year.

Kolbe Academy uses the Fr. Laux series for high school theology courses. These are available from TAN Books and Publishers, or possibly you can order them from Kolbe and see if you can also order their curriculum.

Definitely NOT sugar-coated!

For our homeschooled children we use the Faith and Life series in conjunction with the 1962 Baltimore Catechism (many of the chapters in each complement each other). My nine year old knows the facts of his faith more than most Catholic adults. We are confident that it will provide the basis on which to build a confident and mature Catholic faith.
