I’ve tried asking for exemptions from paying things like the health fee and the student representation fee in my college here in California, but with no luck. Has it always been mandatory for every student to do this? What should I do about it? I guess I just feel that I should do something about this because I feel that there’s a need to fight for our declining religious liberties here in the U.S. even in the seemingly small battles such as this. I’ve thought about voicing my concerns, but I’m not really sure where to start and how, like what department in my school I should go, who I need to talk to, etc. So if you practicing Christians and other good meaning people have any ideas, please let me know. Thanks.

You don’t want your tax money paying for abortions? Good luck with that! Especially if you live in Jerry Brown’s California, but actually if you live anywhere in Obama’s America.

We all have beliefs that are not in order with what our tax money is allocated for. In most instances citizens just have to grin and bear it.

You know what the answer is, right? Don’t go to that college. 😉

Some anti-nuclear advocates have to deal with their money paying for Tridents and Minutemen. People should just deal with it.

Somehow grinning and bearing having to pay for the killing of tens of thousands of soon-to-be-born human beings doesn’t sit well with me. I assume you didn’t mean it that way, hence the

You are to be commended for your desire to stand up for truth.

I seriously considered withholding my income taxes for the same reason, but decided my first responsibility is to support my family, which I’d find hard to do from jail.
You could write a letter to the administration, explaining that you’re paying these fees under protest and consider it a violation of your religious freedom. At least you’d be on record.
God bless.

And when we stand before God one day and he asks why we willingly cooperated with this evil…what will we say…“well God, refusing would have been tough and maybe even led to my arrest if I did not pay my taxes”.

Somehow, I doubt that excuse would be acceptable to God, he never said living our earthly lives by his laws was going to be an easy and comfortable type of life, in fact, I think he said to expect the opposite.

“They will hate you as they hated me”…If no one refuses them and we all just go along with everything, why would anyone hate us?

Actually, if you look up the church’s teaching on remote material co-operation, you may find that God will not hold it against you. I don’t know about the specifics of when it applies, but I’m fairly sure refusing to pay income tax would be considered overkill.

I would have said “Lord, didn’t you say to render unto Caesar? So I pay my taxes. I also rendered unto God by trying to overcome the evil done by my government through what I could do.”

Caesar was a warmonger and used taxes in ways that were really bad. Soldiers would crucify people and leave them along major roads. You’re coming into Rome and have to walk past several miles of horrificly suffering people on crosses. Corruption was rampant.

It makes our government look like saintly in comparison. And Jesus said “render unto Caesar” despite this.

Just a side note from a history geek: All the Roman emperors called themselves “Caesar”. The Germanic word for emperor (German: Kaiser, Dutch: Keizer) is derived from the name Caesar. The C is pronounced as a “k”. The Caesar Jesus referred to was Augustus or, more likely, Tiberius.

You could try and send some sort of written complaint to the administration or maybe a letter to editor of the school paper, but I doubt if you will get too far with your protests. California schools are always strapped for cash no matter what the fees or tax money they are hauling in. Student fees are just a part of campus life no matter where you go.

If you’re attending a public university in California, the health fee waiver is easy to get as long as you file your paperwork on time. I’m sure the school’s website would explain how this works. All you have to show is that you are covered by another plan or that you are covered under your parent’s policy.

A better option for the student representation fee is to form your own group and apply to use a portion of the fee as you see fit.

You are right, but notice Jesus didnt say render onto Caesar everything he asks, instead, its render onto Caesar that which is his and to God, what is Gods, big difference there.

The context was taxes, not total submission to Caesar, so I agree we don’t render under Caesar everything he asks.
