If I could have any religious name, it would be:

Sr. Mary Catherine of the Immaculate***

Mary, for, well, my Mama obviously! I love my Mama.

Catherine for St. Catherine of Siena, my favorite saint.

“of the Immaculate” is my favorite title because I consecrated myself to Our Lady Immaculate on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception in 2009. Every year, I renew my consecration. I used the prayer by St. Maximilian Kolbe.

If I wasn’t able to choose “Immaculate” or if I was able to choose two titles, the other would be “of the Blessed Sacrament.” It was a very powerful part of my reversion to the Church. 🙂
I actually would like to change this. I love St. Catherine, but I have a special devotion to St. Elizabeth of the Visitation. I feel a kinship with her and the Visitation is my favorite mystery of the Rosary. It shows not only Mary’s humility and charity, but also Elizabeth’s great faith in the Lord. She was a woman of God. Elizabeth actually means “God is my oath.” If I could take any name in religious life, it would absolutely have to be:

Sr. Mary Elizabeth of the Divine Mercy

I would chose the Divine Mercy as my title because when I was a revert to the Church, the Divine Mercy image was the first image I learned about. It was on my Brown Scapular before I even knew what it was. It was Jesus’ mercy that brought me back to the Church. I also have a special love for Bl. John Paul II and the fact that he was beatified on Divine Mercy Sunday is not just a coincidence to me, either. It’s God’s way of telling me that the Divine Mercy is with me always. 😉

I was wondering about religious names, like St. Teresa of Jesus, St. Therese of the Child Jesus and the Holy Face, St. John of the Cross, etc. do they choose the name or does someone give their name to them in the case of the Order of Carmelites Discalced?

If you were to choose a religious name, what would it be? Just wondering 😃
If i were to choose a religious name i would be Sr. Therese Rose because my twin sister’s patrion saint is St. Therese of Liseuix and my patrion saint is St. Rose of Lima 🙂 and some orders let you choose your name but some orders choose for you 🙂
God Bless

If I am invested this February…(went through two interviews already with the consul), I will choose St Mary Catherine of Egypt. As I receive my scapular as a lay discalced carmelite, I will have these saints to pray for me…👍

The community I am hoping to enter in August 2012 (God-willing) has the tradition of the Mother General choosing the name after much prayer. I’m very unlikely to get the name I put above because another Sister already has it – Sr. Mary Elizabeth Ann. I think having the Superior chose it makes it much more special. I won’t be surprised if I get something like:

Sr. Mary Faustina Therese

Either
Sr. Maria Rosaria
or
Sr. Maria Cruzita
(pronounced cru-see-tah)
or
Sr. Maria Philomena

If I could choose a title it would be The Crown of Thorns

I’ve started picking mine out. 😃
My choices are:

Sr. Mary Agnes - I have a great devotion to Saint Agnes, this is my first choice.
Sr. Maria Albertina - She is Brazilian like me and a great martyr for chastity, she’s still a Blessed but God willing will be a saint.
Sr. Mary Ambrose - partly for the great Saint and Doctor of the Church, partly for a priest who had a great influence on my faith.

If I had a title it would be "of the Holy Eucharist’.

I realized I haven’t answered my own question 😃
I like Jerome of Jesus and Mary.
Jesus for Jesus Christ, and Mary for the Virgin Mary. I think that was pretty obvious 😃
I’m adding in St. Joseph too. Jerome of The Holy Family 😃

I don’t know how religious names work but if I could pick it would probably be either Sr. Mary of the Most Sacred Heart or Sr. Mary of the Most Blessed Sacrament. There’s tons more but that’s just a bit of the names living up in my head 🙂
