Hey guys, does anyone know which religious orders are the largest in the Catholic Church at the moment? Idk if this is the right thread for it but I thought this one would be the best place to ask it. Pure curiosity.

Pretty sure that’s the Franciscan Order, in all its variants.

I understand that the largest are the Franciscans, Jesuits, Dominicans and Carmelites, but I wouldn’t know which was the largest.

Although smaller the Augustines and Benedictines can claim to be amongst the oldest.

If you mean families, including men and women
  1. Salesians
  2. Franciscans
  3. Augustinians of which the Dominicans part
  4. Society of Jesus
  5. De la Salle Christian Brothers
If you mean communities of men
  1. Franciscans
  2. Jesuits
  3. Salesians
  4. Dominicans
  5. De la Salle Christian Brothers
If you mean communities of women (There are only four orders of women.)
  1. Poor Clares
  2. Benedictines
  3. Carmelites
  4. Dominicans
Among congregations of women
  1. Daughters of Charity
  2. Sisters of Charity
  3. Salesians
  4. Missionaries of Charity
  5. Sisters of St. Joseph
I believe that 4 and 5 may be very close
