Remarrying without an annulment

You seriously need to discuss this with a canon lawyer on the Tribunal of your Archdiocese. I would not recommend just going to a parish priest as not all priests are educated to the degree required in canon law to be able to properly advise on such an issue.

You need to understand FULLY and COMPLETELY that you put the risk of your eternal soul, and that of your friend in jeopardy if you go about this incorrectly. PLEASE check this out with someone who understands the law of the Church - and not just base your eternal salvation on a booklet you found in the narthex.

Good advice.

“I, ___ take you, ___ for my wife/husband, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do us part.”

Catholic Marriage Vows

YourI tone suggests that you question my statement that the document, which is located in the Narthex of my Church, actually exists. I checked and was informed that all of the documents in the Narthex are reviewed prior to being placed there for accuracy and correctness and for this reason not all documents make the cut.
As far as making this judgment on my own, I’ll check but I am almost certain I cannot participate in the Sacrament of Matrimony again.
it did not mean to imply that you were quoting a faulty document, but asking the source so I could give a more helpful answer. My guess is that is a brochure put out by your diocese to answer common questions, and help you get started with the procedure. I have in front of me the similar publication of my own diocese which mentions nothing about the option you cite. I still think your next conversation should be with your own pastor who can give you the best advice that applies to your own situation.

I am sure I join with everyone here in honoring you for your service to your wife and continuing to honor your marriage vows in the fullest sense of the word, and your reward in heaven will be great. you honor all married people in your care of her. It probably is also a good idea to get legal advice on the ramifications with regard to her care, but I imagine you have already done this.

You already have a wife, be faithful to her and faithful to God.
Even if no sexual act has occurred, the fact that you are dating another woman is adultery. See how Jesus defines adultery (Matt 5:27-30).

Taking care of your wife is merely honoring your wedding vows.

My advice based on Church teachings: Break up the sinful relationship, repent and go to Confession. If this is financially and physically possible, take your wife back into your home where she belongs, love and honor her until death makes you part. Provide for her the medical care that she needs with a nurse coming to your home each day if necessary.

Jesus didn’t say that it was going to be easy. He said “Take up your cross and follow me”.
Also remember how He prayed in his agony in the garden “Father take this cup away from me but Thy Will be done, not Mine”.

Take courage! Be a Saint! What else is there to do on this earth?

There are no grounds for an annulment as I do not meet any of the requirements for one.
Also, I mentioned I was sterile from radiation, not impotent. Catholic Canon Law defines a marriage as consummated when the spouses have performed between themselves a conjugal act for the procreation of offspring. With both sterility and a hysterectomy, a conjugal act for the procreation of offspring is an impossibility.
When a conjugal act is performed, the marriage is consummated. The act itself should be open to the transmission of life (no deliberate contraception) but doesn’t actually have to result in a child. In the case of people who are sterile, the act itself still consummates the marriage.

If there are no grounds for an annulment, you are married. Don’t get married again, don’t put yourself in an occasion of sin. Your relationship with Jesus, who loves you intensely, is worth more than anything else. This life isn’t all there is. Your faithfulness may save your soul. United to Jesus, your sacrifice may save many others. Don’t give up.
