Remembering past Mortal Sins

I am starting to remember some things I did during my 25 year plus absence from the Church that are mortal sins. I inadvertently left them out of my Confession I made when coming back into the Church. When I remember one of these sins should I refrain from receiving the Eucharist till I can get to Confession?

good question… im curious as to the asnwer for that too. Is confession only for exactly stated sins (i.e. the oens you would have said) or does it also include the ones you mistakenly forgot

It’s not necessary to abstain from the Eucharist in this case. Whenever you make a confession you are absolved of any sins you’ve inadvertently forgotten as well. You only have a problem if you deliberately omit to confess them or something.

It is a good idea to mention any sins you’ve forgotten in your next confession, but you don’t need to abstain from the Eucharist in the meantime.

If you did not intentionally withold them then they are forgiven. You want to mention them at your next confession. St. Thomas in fact recommends that it is good to confess some sins more than once . I think it is because we reach greater levels of contrition at times and bringing it to confession shows God this.It relieves us of any burden we are carrying so that we can accept God’s forgiveness completely.We are not to be scrupulous though.
