Removing crucifix from rosary

I have several rosarys, but no crucifixes for around my neck. Is it wrong to remove one from a rosary to wear around my neck?
 
I say if it has been blessed, it should be kept intact. I would think that the prayer is the important part, not the temporal material, so buying a rosary for just the crucifix wouldn’t be bad, I guess.
