Removing Doxology from the Mass

I have discovered the new words to the Lord’s Prayer. It is the ELLC’s version see the web page below:

ELLC is the English Language Liturgical Consultation

Seems this is a group of Christian’s from all denominations who came up with a generic version supposedly acceptable for all Christian’s to say.

How this is making it’s way into the Catholic Mass is beyond me.

I have posted a question to the Apologists to get documentation one way or the other if this is valid to use at Mass. My guess is that it is not.

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial
and deliver us from evil.
[For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours
now and for ever.] Amen.

I will let you know when the Apologists answer me.

Have you actually talked to the priest at your parish to learn exactly what is planned in terms of the changes?

There is no question that the words you posted cannot be used in the Mass. That’s a given. But please understand that until you actually talk to the priest and learn exactly what he is planning to do, all the research and all the “ask an apologist” questions, and all the posting on CAF and anywhere else, come to nothing.

It is entirely possible that there is some kind of misunderstanding or miscommunication here; and when the time comes the priest will be following the Missal faithfully. It’s also possible that the priest intends to make his own changes to the Mass. You don’t know which one applies until you talk to the priest.

After so many postings which essentially accuse him of a serious offense against the Mass (and we all know the name of the parish since you posted it), do you not think the priest himself deserves that consideration at the very least?

Thanks again for keeping up with my post. This is disturbing to me and I am not trying to point fingers and falsely accuse anyone. With that said:

Today was our 60th Anniversary Mass for our School and the Bishop was the celebrant. (Along with our Pastor and another Priest from the Oratory.)
I attended and sat near the choir so I could hear clearly the words sung for the Lord’s Prayer.

The version the children sang (with above Music teacher leading them) was as follows:

Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial
and deliver us from evil,
deliver us from evil, Amen.
(I actually recorded this from the *hallowed be your name *until the first recitation of deliver us from evil with my cell phone video camera so I would be sure not to misquote.)

Immediately after the Bishop recited the embolism.
At which we responded with the doxology.

It may have been my imagination but he seemed to hesitate before saying it. I hope this meant he was surprised at the wording of the Lord’s Prayer.

Should I still speak with Father or wait to see if the Bishop puts an end to this.

I’m leaning towards speaking with Father anyway.

I am not aware of having revealed the parish, I did not post it intentionally, only that I live in South Carolina.

Please send me a private message and let me know how I have done this. I am hoping this is only something you have been able to figure out since you are a priest and that most people would not be able to.

Both.

My concern here is still that you have questions about changes being made to the Mass, and you haven’t talked to the priest directly about those changes. Regardless of what those changes might be, if you (or anyone else for that matter) have questions and/or concerns about what’s happening with the Mass, you should talk to the priest himself about it. Get the information from him and let him explain to you what’s happening. Whether the priest is in the right, or in the wrong, parishioners should always talk to their pastor when they have concerns.

With the new Mass translation being implemented, many people have many questions. There’s also a lof of misinformation out there. Some of it is misunderstanding, some of it is outright lies coming from people who don’t want the new translation.

The best sources to answer the question “what’s going to happen at my parish?” is still the pastor.
