Removing of 7 OT books providence?

My wife kinda through me for a loop on this idea.

Basically she was saying that God, through providence, wanted the books removed from the bible because everything happens for a reason.

Now, i’m kinda at a loss. How do you refute a position like that?

Tell your wife that God, through providence, wanted her to espouse this false position so that she could learn about her faith deeper. 😃
 
Or, you could say, they were never removed by the church and man through providence removed them.

Maybe you could start by asking your wife: If God wanted the books removed, how come he did not have the books removed by all christian churches? Because our God is not a God of confusion. If the “divine providence” position is correct, then by removing the deuterocanonicals books from Protestant bibles while keeping them in Catholic and most Orthodox bibles, God has produced confusion. Do you really think that God would use providence to produce confusion, or is it more likely that the argument is rationalization for the very human decision to simply remove OT books that contradicted some of the bedrock doctrines of the Reformation?

She’s basing her argument on a false assumption, that everything happens for a reason, and her implication is that everything happens for God’s reason. Ask her to prove that everything that happens was God’s will. I agree that everything happens for a reason, but for some things - abortion, adultery, theft, removing books from Scripture - that reason is sin.
 
Did God really want those books removed, or did man wanted to remove them? That’s the better question, and we all know what the answer is.

yes, everything happens for a reason, but it is not always God’s reason, is she justifying every sin, every defiance of God’s authority, every disobedience because it has a reason?
