Hello, when we pray the rosary, we pray what our Lady asked for us to pray at Fatima- for the conversion of sinners and the reparation of sins. I was asked why we pray for the reparation of sins when we here on Earth cannot make that reparation, only Christ, as he is the one who died for our sins.

I know we are called to intercede through prayer and supplications. Is this related?

Any ideas to help explain the Catholic teaching on us praying for the reparation of sins, especially any Bible quotes? Thanks, Liseux

You are correct that Christ accomplished all when he died for our sins. However, reparation is what we use to apply Christ’s sacrifice to ourselves by joining our sufferings to His.

Catholics often call this “offering up” our sufferings for our sins, or for the Poor Souls in Purgatory, etc.

Here is a longer explanation including the Scriptural reference to St. Paul’s letter on which the doctrine is based.

God bless.

I believe we can merit graces for others by acts of prayer + sacrificial love.
Jesus obtained a GREAT treasury of grace & we can make a contribution
to it.
