That doesn’t mean you have to go to a priest to confess. It can be any believer. A priest cannot forgive and grant absolution from your sins.

I would like to point out that this is absolutely false. Priests have the power to forgive sins through Apostolic succession (read John 20:22.23) Sorry Mod. I’m off topic…If you want to make this claim, then post it in the Apologetics forum where other more brilliant Catholic apologists will be more than happy to tell you in much more detail why the Sacrament of Pennance is clearly not false.

This is a thread on a Catholic topic (confession and “repentance”), and someone who holds to the Catholic teachings is asking other Catholics who hold to the Truth of these same Apostolic teachings for insight. If you do not recognize the Truth of the Sacrament of Pennance, then I feel it best that you move on to another forum and stop trying to undermine someone who may be struggling with a very heavy burden and trying to reconcile it to the faith that they hold dear.

Geez…just close the whole thread. The only two times I have ever tried to confide in this forum with this issue, the thread has been hijacked.

MODS…please delete. I don’t want this up anymore anyway.

the fact that one struggles with sin does not invalidate one’s faith. It just gives us another reason to thank God for the sacramental provisions that He has equiped the church with for our help and growth. (This btw is where it comes into focus for MamaSusie. Obedience brings more grace and ultimately victory and peace. What does the Word of God say to do when we sin? Confess it. (James 5:16 & 1st John 1:9) This concept goes all the way back to the Old Testament if you look into it. *
The Bible does say to confess your sins to one another, but that is by choice. It is not a commandment.
*No ma’am it does not. It is by command. Nothing in any of the passages on confession of sins in the Word of God offer it as optional. If you can provide me with chapter and verse to show that it is “by choice”, then I’ll gladly admit I am wrong, but it won’t happen…because I know my Bible well enough to make that statement with full confidence. But please… feel free to offer whatever you think willl support that belief of yours. I have opened a new thread over in apologetics just for this discussion, so please offer what you will. (this also will hopefully get this thread back on the topic of MS’s struggles and if nothing else get the lot of us backing her up in prayer.)

Susie, I will begin a novena of the Divine Mercy Chaplet for you today. It has never failed me. It won’t fail you either. God loves you and Jesus is with you in your struggles and sufferings. Persevere!
Pax tecum,

Your assistance as always is appreciated.

Church Militant, thank you.

Sometimes it seems like the only way to NOT sin, is to not be married. I’m fairly confident I could have my marriage annulled. It’s very tempting.

I have a problem with going to confession to confess things I’m not sorry for. I can’t wrap my head around that at all.
