Hello!

Sorry that I bother you all with so many question! :o

I wanted to ask if you have to repent all your sins individually. What I forget a sin or don’t realize I’m sinning at some point but I still want to stop sinning and I feel sorry for committing sins in general.

Also, what about mortal sin. What if you commit a mortal sin (which you know is a mortal sin) but forget about it. The same thing applies as above. You are sorry about all sins and if you would know about it you would repent and go to confession. You have maybe even beaten the sin! Are you forgiven or eternally damned? I sometimes have the fear that it is my case. That I forgot to confess it and forgot about it. 😦

In confession it is important to confess as many sins as you can. Do to our human weakness we cannot remember every sin. But, we still have to repent of every sin even if we do not remember some to confess. As long as you would have confessed if you remember, you are fine. It is important that if you remember a sin you forgot during the last confession, that you confess it in the next confession.

Ideally, I would think so, yes. If it is possible.

What I forget a sin or don’t realize I’m sinning at some point but I still want to stop sinning and I feel sorry for committing sins in general.

You can’t commit a serious sin “accidentally.” It has to be a conscious decision. Sorrow for being sinful is a good thing.**

Also, what about mortal sin. What if you commit a mortal sin (which you know is a mortal sin) but forget about it. The same thing applies as above. You are sorry about all sins and if you would know about it you would repent and go to confession.

I finish all of my confessions with “for these and all my sins I an sorry.” If I remember a serious sin that I forgot to mention previously, I bring it to the next confession.

You have maybe even beaten the sin! Are you forgiven or eternally damned? I sometimes have the fear that it is my case. That I forgot to confess it and forgot about it.

If you have beaten it and are sorry - you are ok even if it is forgotten. Always do a good examination of conscience, go frequently and this problem will be minimized.

Thank you very much for your quick answer!

Does this apply to mortal sin?

Also one or more years ago I broke a promise to God and I THINK I did not confess it (I don’t know why - if I forgot or not). Should I mention it on the next confession?

God bless!

Yes it does apply to Mortal Sin.

You should mention it just in case. There is no harm done in mentioning it again even if you already have.

Just say, “A sin from my past that I think I forgot to confess at the time is …”

quasimodo - Thank you. As for what you said I agree. The problem is that I used to be a bad Christian (not that I’m now a really good). I didn’t go to church alone and I went to confession every 3-4 month (and that’s only because I was forced into it). Now this has changed (I’m trying to return to Christ 🙂 ) but this pretty much caused that I might have missed stuff etc.
