Help! What is the best way to report wrong teachings in RCIA & Marriage Prep Classes. The Faith Formation Person knows of the occurances and of our position on teaching doctrine, but is more of the “loving, feelly” avenue. I have spoke directly with her on the wrong oppinons that guest speakers have presented and my husband confronted, nicely, a speaker durning class. Our future son-in-law went through RCIA, they also attened the wedding prep class, and our son is in confirmation. We learned to attend each class with our children. Do we go directly to the Bishop or what?

Thanks, Shelly

The proper chain of command would be the Faith Formation Director (which it seems you’ve already taken it up with), then the Pastor (perhaps even with the Director in the meeting too). If you get no satisfaction from them, then go to the diocesan level-- the Bishop’s office. After that, it’s to Rome-- the CDF.

Also in large cities, there are clusters of parishes called a deanery and they have a priest who is named the dean. You can try there as well.

All dioceses have deaneries.

To answer the OP, in most cases, take it to the Pastor. If you feel your concerns aren’t going to be addressed (you are to judge if the Pastor’s manner is correct. You only should expect that he will deal with it. It is primarily his perogative on the pastoral solution), you can take it to the Bishop.

Except in the most egregious and obstinate cases, is there justification to bother Rome w/ the challenge. In the alternative, we just need to quietly and patiently turn to prayer and charitable involvement to be an instrument of the Holy Spirit.
