I was just listening to The World Over’s interview with Mel Gibson this afternoon. He has recut the Passion, and it will be playing in theaters starting March 11th.
He said that he took some of the more violent scenes out hoping that the film would get a PG13 rating. It didn’t.

I would like to see it, even though I missed it last time.

Please go see it. It is the Stations of the Cross in paintings in motion.

I will probably go see it again even though I own the DVD. I think it is important to send Hollywood a message.

Note: the movie will only be in the theaters for about 3 weeks.

Damn… It sounded to me like we would be able to see deleted/uncensored scenes. Shame he has to take out gory scenes.

I agree.

Best Mel quote on the Passion was on Jay Leno.

Jay being a mamas boy was acting like a girl probing Mel on “did the Passion have to be so violent” “did the Passion have have all that blood” “I understand it was a bloody scene, but did the movie have to be rated R?”

Mel calmly said, The Bible is rated R

I am liking Mel Gibson more and more. 👍
I hear Mel is really old school devout Catholic. He only accepts the latin mass (I always liked that better myself) and he rejects anything out of Vatican II that moderizes or dilutes the faith.

I believe the recut version tames down the scourging and deletes a total of 5 - 6 minutes. It is being released as “unrated” but would probably still garner an R.

It might be one that people will feel more comfortable bringing their preteen or younger teen children to.

I would love to see it and compare it to the other… I saw the original last year in theaters… I think that this may become a Lenten tradition!

God Bless–JMJ

I guess here’s my chance…I haven’t seen it yet. I’ve wanted to, but couldn’t bring myself to watch it. I don’t know if I could handle it. I’ve actually had the DVD that my mom left here months ago, and I still haven’t seen it.

I think I’ll wait and see it for the first time in theatre.

As he said in the Dianne Sawyer interview the latin mass was never abrogated by Vatican II (which is true) and so that is the Mass he attends.

Mel’s father Hutton is a notorious sedevacantist and some assume Mel follows suit, however as noted at Snopes.com:

“Whether any of this has rubbed off on Hutton’s son Mel is an open question. A church elder at Holy Family (Mel’s Malibu church) says that while the two share the same foundation of faith, Mel Gibson parts company with his father on many points. “He doesn’t go along with a lot of what his dad says,” he says. And beyond claiming to have seen the plans for Holy Family and attended services with the congregation, Hutton Gibson [who lives in Houston] has no apparent connection to his son’s church in California.”

Has anyone heard anything about the ‘Recut’ version being released on DVD yet?

We have the original, but I would like to have a copy of this version as well.

Peace be with you,
Monica:)
