I had heard somewhere that, in addition to the Deuterocanon, Luther had attempted to remove more books from scripture when he broke from the Church and that his original Bibles were published with these in the back along with the rest of the “Apocrypha,” but that his followers disapproved of this so he put some of them back into the Canon. Is this true? If so, does anybody know which books he tried to remove?

James was his worst, but also Revelations, and I think Hebrews

Thanks. Do you (or does anybody else) happen to know any resources I could cite for this information.

This came from Wikipedia, but there are many other sources that say the same things… there is much more on this than what I pasted but it did name the books… I figured this a neutral source.

'Initially Luther had a low view of the books of Esther, Hebrews, James, Jude, and Revelation. He called the Epistle of James “an epistle of straw,” finding little in it that pointed to Christ and His saving work.’

People confuse his views with removing the books. Luther changed the order of a couple of books moving the least Christocentric to the back of the New Testament. The things that people quote for proof of his wanting to remove them come from a rather interesting place. They come from the prefaces of the books in his translation. So there isn’t any evidence he actually removed anything from the canon.

The only reason he didn’t get them removed is because his peers advised him not to… Wether he did or didn’t, he still was messing with something that wasn’t his to be messing with.
