Can anyone recommend a good source of information (audio, visual or book) that will help me bring some “confused” Catholics back to the Church of the Upper Room? They joined a large (20,000) Fundalmenalist Church with Jumbo tron screens and huge Christmas and Easter productions and have become very anti-Catholic.

Besides praying for them, I thought if I could get some ideas from other Catholics that had left and then came back, I could use it to help guide their rescue.

Thanks in advance.

hey, hey, hey -:dancing: isn’t it about the entertainment system?:dancing: Isn’t it about God wanting us to enjoy the riches He has to offer us? Why can’t we use the most modern technology available to hype up emotions after we have had our double shot lattes:blessyou: out in the lobby while being met by the meet and greet committee:wave: ? This new mega church has everything…everything that is, except for the Eucharist… 😦

Oh I am so sad about your friends. I shall be in prayer for them. Aside from being tongue in cheek, I think your best bet would be to go to Bud McFarlane’s site and see what he has to offer. He has free CD’s and tapes that might help. You also might want to check our Jeff Cavin’s autobiography. He was a pastor after having been raised Catholic, and of course, now, he is a Mama’s Boy. (having a senior moment on the title…but I am sure you can find it at EWTN or Catholic Exchange) God Bless -

I recommend a book by Patrick Madrid, Search and Rescue. There’s also a series on EWTN by the same name.

ewtn.com/series/searchandrescue/index.htm

I don’t know if they would be open to it, but Patrick Madrid’s series of books, Surprised by Truth, are very good.

Be sure to pray for them, frequent the sacraments and offer sacrifices, and be the best Christian example you can be - that ultimately may be what turns them around! Good luck and God Bless!! 🙂

I would also recommend Patrick Madrid. I’m reading Search and Rescue right now…and it’s definitely worth the money.

I think the very best book for a situation like the one you described is “Rome Sweet Home” by Scott and Kimberly Hahn. That is the book that helped bring me back to the faith and I have handed copies out to many others.

  1. Speak the truth in love and humility.
  2. Pray.
  3. Have faith that God wants all of his children to be saved.
  4. Get out of the way and let the Holy Spirit do His job.

Hi,
Jeff Cavins’ book is calledMy Life on the Rock . It’s very good.

Peace,
Linda

Thanks to everyone that replied. I got some great suggestions, the power of the Holy Spirit never ceases to amaze me.

***YES! ***

Your Mouth!

I’m not being smart. I just happen to think that is the best way to go. Nose to nose and toe to toe! You have the truth. Ask tough questions and invite them to study questions together. REMEMBER it’s a WAR!

If they are in their 20’s or 30’s, invite them to Theology on Tap lecture series that includes opportunities for socialization and refreshment. It has helped lots of young adults in the Chicago Metropolitan Area. This is their website. It is absolutely a great way to resurrect interest in young adults who are really testing the validity of their faith and how it impacts them in their life right now. I strongly recommend it. yamchicago.org/

I’m currently reading Karl Keatings book, Catholicism and Fundamentalism. It’s a good book of Catholic responses.

i’m not trying to be nosy, just wondering where you are from and what church these friends of your are attending. if you can share that it would be great

i agree with John 645. You can recommend books to them all day, but they aren’t going to read them. The best thing you can do is question them. Find out the reasons why they left. Was it because someone said they should call no man father? Did someone tell them catholics are idoloters? They are decieved if so. Simple arguments will put an end to that.
And don’t they miss the body of christ? the blood? what happened to their understanding of apostolic succession? chances are, the people who have left aren’t really clear on what they’ve lost. You just have to remind them or fill them in. Good luck.
