Do be careful, though. There is a lot of Elaine Pagels like ‘pseudo biography’ and ‘womens’ studies’ DRECK out there masquerading as scholarship.
Most any reputable works will pretty much reference Scripture and if anything some sort of historical reference to the time period. . . a reference like Oxford History of the Ancient World which explains what was ‘going on’ at the time these women lived.
But as I said, there’s a lot of foul (historically or scholastically speaking) stuff like “The Red Tent” (slightly later, dealing with the daughter of Jacob, Abraham’s grandson).
