I am looking for help with finding a resource or resources to help me with a college masters degree program in education. All of our curriculum and graded requirements require us to tie scripture to educational practices and I am not having much luck finding a resource that allows me to find and relate scripture without losing context.

A little about myself; I have recently been Confirmed into the Church through RCIA and so I am still growing and learning. I was away from God and the Bible for many years until my life brought me back to God and the Church. So I am still very much a novice in relating scripture to things without losing context.

I would appreciate any help anyone can provide me. Thanks.

Hi Jason,
One thing that came to mind was to find a few Vatican documents in regards to education. The reason I say this is not only for the documents themselves which usually quote scripture but also for the footnotes which point towards other scriptures and documents that should hopefully give you something to work with.

Best wishes with your masters and welcome to the Church 🙂

Thank you for the suggestion. I will check those out.

Hi Jason, sorry I just noticed this–this is our first year of retirement and we’ve been enjoying ourselves and new-found freedom enormously. I pray you are well, and will return to Ccom soon and often.
Congratulations on completing RCIA–I pray you will consider returning to the RCIA team if invited (I’m told many parishes don’t invite graduates to join the team) and use your experience to help new inquirers. I spent about 20 years on the team after my conversion, and it was an awesome experience.
Also congratulations on your Masters ambition. I admit that my recommendations may not be highly credible–I twice started and withdrew from an MBA program for which I had a scholarship. Long story. But recently I used a “senior scholarship” at a Catholic college for a wonderful course in Modern Catholic Philosophy (that’s not an oxymoron, is it?) which was an introduction of to St John Newman, the Cardinal who wrote The Idea of a University, and much, much more. I strongly recommend his writings (you will quickly get used to his flowery language–skip the long sections as you scan–but then go back because he doesn’t often waste a lot of words).
Also, for your own library, try to find a cheap, used, paperback copy of O’Brien’s Lives of the Popes. Although I strongly dislike the the arrogance, skepticism, and chronic criticism of O’Brien, he seems very smart, obviously works hard, and provides in this book an excellent structure for learning the timetable, at least, of many major events and issues in Church history.
