Glory be to God! After a year and a half of conversations with a Evangelical Protestant friend (one who originally tried to “save” my poor Catholic soul) and about a year of his attendance at Mass with me–he’s showing cautious interest in becoming Catholic.
  1. He goes to Mass alone if I’m out of town for the weekend.
  2. He’s started making the sign of the cross.
  3. He has come to believe that contraception is immoral and inconsistent with a pro-life stance.
  4. He has admitted that he’s considering becoming a Catholic.
Obviously, though, there are still big issues, mainly the Virgin Mary and the nature of authority within the Church. Like many Protestants, he thinks we give too much honor to a “mere” woman. And I think he fears losing individuality and becoming a “robot of Rome.” Not to mention that becoming Catholic may result in losing friends and disappointing family.

Has anyone ever been in a situation like this? I feel that with God’s grace, the movement of the Holy Spirit, prayer and a little further education, he might just swim the Tiber. I just want to do the best I can to help.

We’ve decided also to start studying texts outside the Bible together. Any suggestions as to what Early Church Father we should study (I’m looking for someone so blatantly Catholic its hard to refute)?

Your prayers would also be truly appreciated.

Thanks,

❤️ Love is Patient
