My university’s chapter of Students for Life is having elections tonight and the entire executive board is either retiring or graduating. Considering the fact that meetings usually consist of the leader and me and one other freshman, undoubtedly I’ll be handed a position even though I’m not a year into the movement yet. So, I need some resources to educate myself on arguments and the history of the movement and life issues. I’ll accept websites, but, I prefer books because I detest computers. I’ll likely start reading these things during spring break. So, any good pro-life books/websites? Also, I’d prefer stuff that can be easily found at a public library since I’m a student and short on cash. Sorry for any typos, I hurriedly typed this during lunch break.

Randy Alcorn’s Pro-Life Answers to Pro-Choice Arguments is excellent and has been very influential. It is still used today to train people who will be active in the prolife field. I believe it was originally written in the early 90s. The book has arguments for the prolife side, but also strategies for how to persuade people on this issue, with info about what has been most effective. This link has info about the book: books.google.com/books?id=xdlDo8vTG_sC On the left side, click “Get this book in print” and then “Find in a library” to see if yours has it.

That’s the book I’d also recommend. Very good resource. It has been updated in the last 10 years or so, too.

If you’re not sure how to move forward with your group, I’d also recommend contacting Students for Life. They exist to help college students who are in precisely your situation. I’m sure they’d give you lots of great tips and resources.

Our club has a campus mentor that works for Students for Life, so, we are already have contact with the organization. Thank you though. I hope I can find that book somewhere. I’ll ask our current president if she has any books.

Try bookfinders.com

And I really, really prefer books 🙂

Okay, the reason why I don’t want to order to books is not just because of the money, but, it will ship to my house and I don’t want my parents calling me a fanatic. Well, they know I’ve been to the Chicago March for Life, but, keeping all these books around might be a bit much. My brother has also called Christians who oppose abortion evil and, if he comes over and sees that I have all these books, no doubt he will rail against me. I just want to borrow books and get them off my hands asap.

The pro-life websites are worth reading on a regular basis,

liveactionnews
lifenews
lifesitenews

Operation Rescue is probably worth a stop now and then as well.

Will Students For Life help with a middle schooler? I have gotten into two debates with kids over abortion and it ended neutral. I can’t keep my mouth shut…

Priests for Life has an excellent list of recommended reading:

Also, would any CAFers know how to respond to the ‘12 year old was raped and will die if she has the baby’ argument?

I would call them on it. Ask them how many of these cases have happened compared to those where the mothers life was not at stake? And if that is their only clause in allowing for an abortion, than they should be united with us in abhorring and protesting the majority of abortions taking place in this Country right now.

I would respond to them by asking whether the child in the mothers womb is a human life or not? if they say no, ask them when life begins and why? as this is the key question.

Then when these hypothetical scenarios come up, so long as the child in the mothers womb is not viewed ‘less then’ or ‘inhuman’ then it’s up to the doctors and medical profession to decide how best to proceed on a case by case basis trying to save both lives. And in such cases, it’s never an ‘abortion’ the direct, deliberate and intentional killing of an innocent child.

I hope this has helped

God Bless You

Thank you for reading

Update: I was made secretary, but VP and president positions are still empty. I may need to step up come end of the year and they cannot find a more seasoned person to take either position. I talked to other members and they recommended some books. They did not have anything on euthanasia/assisted suicide, though. Recommendations? How about something detailing the situation of euthanasia/assisted suicide in Belgium and other countries where it is legal and how they got to where they are?

They recommended stuff by Abby Johnson, Dr. Bernard Nathanson, and, I forgot her name, but, she was Jane Roe in Roe vs. Wade. Abby Johnson’s book will be probably easiest to find in a library since she is popular.

I don’t have any book recommendations, but I thought this debate with Archbishop Anthony Fisher was very good - youtube.com/watch?v=iC6WEFuhk6o

I thought Archbishop Anthony Fishers arguments were absolutely spot on and why it is so important to fight the Assisted Suicide/Euthanasia battle.

Thankfully it is still illegal here in Australia, but it is under attack and if it falls, It will cause tremendous harm to the most vulnerable, just as the unborn when their protections failed with roe vs wade.

I hope this has helped

Book recommendations:

I second Trent Horn’s book Persuasive Pro-Life.

His video is excellent, too.

Jane Roe’s real name is Norma McCorvey.
You should know there are 2 books, the earlier one was written prior to her pro-life conversion and becoming a Christian. I cannot recall the title; sorry.

The later one is Won By Love and tells more of how the lawyer for Roe, Sarah Weddington, used her and her situation as a pawn for “women’s right to choose”.

Another book, which is not primarily about Roe, but gives some history on NARAL is
Subverted: How I Helped the Sexual Revolution Hijack the Women’s Movement, available on Amazon.com. I was able to find it through my local library.

Hope that helps - and pray you find more ppl to help!

Mimi
