Resources for Understanding Atonement

I enjoy and gain a lot from Fr. Barron videos and essays. I’ve heard him challenge a commenter on his videos (more than once) about reading something serious about atonement. I know to read the CCC. I’d like something that fleshes it out a bit more for me in easier terms. I know our bodies needed redeemed, but why? Why did a debt have to be paid? I’m a little embarrassed I can’t answer this as easily as I’d like.

Try Jimmy Akins book “Salvation Controversy”

The first few chapters explains atonement pretty well.

Try those and Robert Sungenis’ Not By Bread Alone. I think also Scott Hahn’s A Father Who Keeps His Promises ties in the nature of being bought out of slavery in the OT.
