We need some suggestions, we have a friend, an intellectual and analytical man who is a non-denominational protestant. He actually asked my husband to take him to Mass and has borrowed The Conversion of Scott Haun tape. He said he liked it, but didn’t agree with everything. After returning it, he came back and asked if he could borrow it for a buddy of his. He then asked if we have any more tapes for him. We do, but most seem inappropriate for him, as they deal with marriage and children and he is a single man. It is amazing how God has recently put people in our life who are open and thirsty for the truth. Now, I would just like some resources to assist us as we are growing in our knowledge of our faith. I would like some suggestions on tapes/books that would convince him about the Truth of the Catholic church, something powerful and not too expensive. Thank you.

Well if the guy likes listening to tapes you should go to the St. Joseph Communications website, I think its saintjoe.com but I am not sure. There I would look at more of the Scott Hahn tape series and I also strongly recommend Fr. Corapi, he is actually my favorite. Some of the tape series can be a little pricey though. There is an apostalate that I think is called The Mary Foundation and if you look them up on the internet they send out tapes for free!

You can get all sorts of free tapes about the Church from www.catholicity.com

Fr Larry Richards has an excellent tape “The Mass Explained” that you can get from this website…I highly recommend it for your Protestant friend!

Be sure to look at all the tapes/cd’s on the site…many good ones!

Keep in mind you can also download, free-of-charge, any number of programs from EWTN’s website (go to Libraries, then Audio Library). The files are in Real Player format, so you may have to download that too (its also free).

Scott Hahn’s 13-part “Answering Common Objections” is on there, as well as the entire catalog of Marcus Grodi’s “The Journey Home”, Pat Madrid’s “Pope Fiction”, and any number of other apologetics and spiritual programs. If your computer has a CD burner, you can make CDs of the stuff and (although you may have to convert the format) listen to it in the car, stereo, etc, or share it with your friend.

And oh yes, if he’s very intellectual, Cardinal John Henry Newman (also a convert from Anglicanism).

Go to www.saintjoe.com and pick up some of Bishop Fulton Sheen’s old tapes. Wowsers.

Also in the Catholic Answers store, try Winning Converts
Edited by Fr. John A. O’Brien. And of course, Keating’s book, as mentioned above, as well as the tract series CA produces, which I have found gives very concise replies to a number of specific topics and questions.

Then just for fun, give the man some Chesterton. :>) If he’s intellectual, he’ll probably love the guy. 😃
