Just looking for answers; I won’t argue or even respond.

You mean God, I presume.

I was blessed with the gift of faith and he’s always been real and true and part of my family. i would no sooner not believe in Him than I would not believe in my mom or dad.

Two reasons for me anyway. One being Aquinas’ argument from motion. The second being I just really can’t believe this world came from nothing and had no guidance in its creation. It seems too perfect to me.
Besides, I wouldn’t be able to celebrate Christmas.

God created us for himself and our hearts are restless until they rest in Him. In other words, people are programmed to seek the good - to seek God. We believe because the whole of creation reminds us of the creator. When it comes to Divine Revelation, I believe in the Judeo-Christian scriptures and the Church because it has been the greatest force for good in the world.

Because for me, God is the only thing that resolved both the problem of evil and the problem of beauty

Because this is in the Catholic Living section, rather than the Philosophy or Apologetics section, it would appear you’re looking for that type of response.

I would tend to agree with @AveOTheotokos at a practical. Without an all powerful, loving God, as originally revealed as YHWH, life becomes meaningless. His salvation plan, through Jesus is awesome.

I have far too much personal evidence in my life that He exists NOT to believe.

Blessings,
Stephie

I believe in God. Who happens to also be called Yahweh. And Dieu. And Dio. Deus. Gott. And yes, even Allah, as Christian Arabs do call God this. (or in Maltese, Alla) Depends on the language and who’s talking. Most Jewish people wouldn’t say Yahweh, and a few English speaking ones won’t even write the entire name of God as God. Anyway, because of logic. The universe exists, no? An we know the universe has’t always existed, because we know the universe has a beginning. We know the universe is in motion and ever expanding (as I have pointed out elsewhere, something that is still growing cannot possibly be infinite). We also know from physics, that something that is in motion has to be put in motion. Well, the universe is in motion, no? Well, something outside of universe had to put the universe in motion. This is what we call “God”. This is kind of a simplified way of answering it, but I hope I’ve helped.

I grew up Catholic, but am more agnostic now. I truly hope in my heart there is a Heaven, a God and an afterlife…something better than this and someone waiting at home, but I also recognize how precious life is right now because tomorrow is promised to no one.

Because I know Him. When you know Him, it becomes impossible to NOT believe in Him.

God bless,
Dave

Hi Friend,

HERE’S A SHOCkER FOR YOU: EVERY TIME YOU LOOK INTO A MIRROR YOU SEE GOD!

You’re speaking of GOD, who by logic alone CAN, to an open mind and heart be known.
As you know the name Yahweh, you likely have some familiarity with the bible

Genesis 1: 26-27 "God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth,” So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them"

Then in John 4:23-24. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth."

So then how does humanity, physical & mortal , emulate our God who is SPIRIT & immortal & WHY

Is this critically important?
In the entire Universe there is are BILLIONS of planets, stars & Galaxies, but only one can be PROVEN to support all the life forms that we are aware of: PLANET EARTH
On Earth there are many MILLIONS of living things: But only one; humanity is rational: humanity

Logic ought to confirm that these kinds of odds cannot be accidentaLl. Take for example the absolute necessity; for the sun and the moon being in in our Galaxy. … That cannot be coincidental. Or the Natural Laws like Gravity and Oxygen. Or GOOD & evil.

…Some kind of GREATER-force HAD to be behind all of this creation and unfathomable organization, & very much more.

To be RATIONAL requires a mind, intellect and freewill; which GOD at the instant of our birth GIFTS each HUMAN Soul. [Defined as that which animates & maintains life] This package of the human Soul, with its ever-present mind, intellect and freewill; which LIKE GOD, are SPIRITUAL & immortal, fulfill how humanity ALONE does emulate God. …Thus when you look in the mirror, you ARE seeing God!

If you doubt this, then describe for us your FREEWILL: what is its shape, color, weight & size. … Can’t be done, yet its existence cannot be rationally denied. I have come to call this package our Spiritual OTHER-SELF. So WHY did God create humanity in His Image?

Isaiah: one of the Old Testament Prophets provides the answer. Isa. 43: 7 & 21 & 8, 10-11 “ everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made." The people whom I formed for myself that THEY MIGHT declare my praise. … Bring forth the people who are blind, yet have eyes, who are deaf, yet have ears! “You are my witnesses,” says the LORD, "and my servant whom I have chosen, that you may know and believe me and understand that I am He. Before me no god was formed, nor shall there be any after me. I, I am the LORD, and besides me there is no savior.

So we exist to Know, love, serve, and OBEY God, the source of everything Good, who TOLERATES humanities EVIL which will be punished in the After-Life, if not repented and that soul is converted.

Space here is restricted or there is much more I desire to share with you.
God Bless you,

Patrick

I believe in God, The Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Yahweh, or I Am Who Am, is one of His names, so yes, I believe in Him, I just seldom use that particular name for Him in my prayer or when speaking of Him and never liturgically.

Because only Yahweh died on a cross to save people. No other deity has the Gospel message. If you were to take all the love from other religions and multiply it times a thousand, it still wouldn’t equal the love that exists in Christianity.

Because the Bible tells me so and I believe the Bible is the inspired word of God.

I could go on about the Thomas Aquinas’ arguments, but that wouldn’t be my answer.

The answer for me would be “I don’t know why, I just do”.

Oh, this was a “Why” question, not a “Do” question.

I believe in God because nothing makes sense without Him and because I have experienced Him in my life-we have a relationship.
